DIY Alta Kickstand

I would like to plate one of my bikes and ride it to work. Need a kick stand.

Who has skills to cnc mill an adapter to another oem? I'd buy a yamaha adapter.

fyi: the alta kickstand is too high to use on flat surface when sm tires are on an exr - mxr probably too. If you are gonna use the sm/17's then forget about the alta kickstand - just lean her against something. If slicks on the 21/19 rims then guessing would be ok, but the alta kickstand has a weak hanger - gone thru 2 already

I can shorten or lengthen any kickstand. I just do not want to mess with brackets, or be tree-dependent on parking lots.

If you can find an alta kickstand bracket, you can use a KTM kickstand. However it required drilling and tapping the kickstand for a new spring post and some additional small parts. It also requires spacing the bracket off the mounting frame by at least 1/4". If you can find the Alta bracket and want to try this route I'll provide pics and more details. The bike sits a little high even after cutting the kickstand down a little, but it works.

I klugged together a '15 KTM 250 XC kickstand install on my MXR. Not too thrilled with it, but it will do for now until I get a chance to rework it (better fitting washer/spacer, KTM kickstand rubber band keeper thing in a better location, rework the stopper tab on the bracket to get the kickstand to be more vertical when deployed/down). Looking at the Alta footpeg/kickstand bracket I'm afraid its going to fail if I look at it wrong so I'm not going to be using the kickstand unless I have to. Yesterday I took my triangle stand when I went riding. Out on the trails I'll use a tree or rock before the kickstand setup.

Yes, Alta bracket, 2015 KTM 250 XC kickstand arm. I won't have time to write anything up for a bit, but if you look at the pics in the link belo its pretty self explanatory.

I'm not sure I'd recommend my approach, the spring is attached to the swingarm so is constantly in motion. It was a quick install, at some point I'll likely modify it.

I tried to set it up closer to the original Alta configuration with the spring in the back. This required buying more small pieces and doing more mods than F451. His idea was my first idea. You still need the Alta bracket however. Here are some pics of what I did. I drilled and tapped the kickstand for 1/4-20 with a bushing for a spring post. Also drilled and tapped the stops (#8-32) so I could adjust the kickstand angle. Like F451 said, without any adjustment to the stops, the kickstand is angled really far forward and you can visibly see the moment causing deflection in the kickstand leg. I cut the kickstand down a 1/4" as well. Also had to add a 1/4" spacer between the bracket and the mount, I happened to have some scrap aluminum plate that worked pretty well.

Does anyone know if the Alta’s foot peg mounts were similar to any existing OEMs? I understand the pegs are similar to a Yamaha design. I’m wondering if the mount itself is similar as well, specifically the mounting hole locations.

Yamaha 250 pegs are a direct bolt on from what I was told.

I’m specifically talking about the peg mounts. I believe a pro moto or a moose side stand that is designed to be mounted between the mount and the frame may be adapted for an Alta if we identify an somewhat similarly sized peg mount.

Haha! That would be great. You indeed can select the Alta but not the year or the model, and you can't press the "Add to Cart" button.

If you look at the pic of that same kickstand on the DennisKirk website you can see that it has a flat mounting surface. So at the very least you can use a piece of aluminum plate to make a mount for it by thru-bolting the plate between the foot peg bracket and mount. This actually doesn't seem too difficult.

I think the moose stand would be the safer bet, the pro moto stands are MUCH cooler but the stands retracted position may be an issue. I have one on my RMZ but haven’t made the time yet to see if there would be an obvious interference problem. If it looks like it may work I’ll dig a little deeper.

It looks like Yamaha has a foot peg mount with offset mounting bolts, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda all appear to be centered on the mount bracket. The Alta has an offset similar to the Yamaha, so possibly on one of these stands for a Yamaha may be more easily adapted. That’s all pure speculation though. First one to figure it out wins!
