EX w/ mousse

My EX came w/ mousses (LOVE that they do this!) and I'm now at 500 miles and the rear is getting pretty soft. On my last ride, a ton of mousse gel came out of (primarily one of) the rim sidewalls, which made me concerned the bead got unseated..

What I likely should have done, is clean the tire and just cranked down on the rim lock... but I thought it would be a good time to add a second rim lock, and possibly swap out the tire for winter (it gets REALLY slick here in PNW in the winter.. at least on the west side).

A few things I discovered:

1. there was still a TON of lube in there... more than I've ever seen (it got, everywhere...)
2. they install a nice "rim tape" inbetween the mousse and rim (why there was so much lube still, despite having an open hole in the rim)
3. the mousse actually looks really good!

A question:

Has anyone else had this happen? (I've run mousses for a long time, and never had the lube squirt out like that, past the rim)

Any concerns w/ using the original mousse, adding a second rim lock, and installing a new tire?

Thanks!varg tire.jpg

Have you used this more street miles than your other bikes? Mousses get really bloody hot on the street.

We see this often with bikes used in the Dutch OTR season where there are quite some fast asphalt sections (or people ride fast anyways). A lott of us stopped using mousses long ago since they pretty much melt and we have to replace them twice a season.
