Footpeg spring retainer

On the Alta the inner leg of the peg return spring is a bit short, and it also has too large of a gap to fill between the peg and the mount. It jams. You have to un-bend the 90 degree bend in it slightly. You may be able to do that even without removing anything.

Er, I was not clear. And yeah, clean was the first thing I did.
it appears the spring end underneath the peg came unattached and slid through the bracket...

Yes, exactly. See my post above.

Now that it has done it, you may have to remove the peg and un-bend the stupid spring while it is out.

The way I solved this was to drill a 1/8' dia hole into the bracket. I then inserted a 1/8" dowel pin (drill bit end) to act as a spring stop. The hole is drilled and the pin is pressed in about 1/4". Problem solved. In about a years use it has never given me any more problems. Here is a picture after assembly.

Not really. I don’t recall any issues installing the YZ springs. The OEM spring simply is a poor design and reshaping it didn’t solve the problem to my satisfaction. My bikes an 2018 EX.
