On the Alta the inner leg of the peg return spring is a bit short, and it also has too large of a gap to fill between the peg and the mount. It jams. You have to un-bend the 90 degree bend in it slightly. You may be able to do that even without removing anything.

Er, I was not clear. And yeah, clean was the first thing I did.
it appears the spring end underneath the peg came unattached and slid through the bracket...

Now that it has done it, you may have to remove the peg and un-bend the stupid spring while it is out.

The way I solved this was to drill a 1/8' dia hole into the bracket. I then inserted a 1/8" dowel pin (drill bit end) to act as a spring stop. The hole is drilled and the pin is pressed in about 1/4". Problem solved. In about a years use it has never given me any more problems. Here is a picture after assembly.

Not really. I don’t recall any issues installing the YZ springs. The OEM spring simply is a poor design and reshaping it didn’t solve the problem to my satisfaction. My bikes an 2018 EX.
