I have a couple friends that got to Race this Hare Scrambles in an All Electric Class. I was not there, so this is just a collection of the info I got, so please correct things that I may have in error, but I am so proud of the DIY riders for there showing and excited in the fact that we, all Electric E-Bikes, are growing as a force to be reckoned with in the Off Road Motorcycle Community. There were 24 bikes on the start, and there were many Starks in the race, home builts, Remanufactured, and other Electrics from around the world. The race was 4 laps and the fastest lap was on XE4 Yamaha built by Mark Peroni's Company, and ridden by a real good rider Shawn Clark. The total race was 1 hour and 16 minute (4 laps). The XE4 has a quick change battery system built by Mark Peroni's Company XEMX1.com Mark himself finished 8th on another XE4. The second place finisher was Derek Timm (Lithium-King.com) on his home built Suzuki with similar drive train that I build all my electric builds with. I even use many of his parts. He is a very good rider also, and I will include his YouTube of the first 32 minutes of his race here at Peace River. He also has a quick change battery system, ( about 1 minute to change).
In the first 3 laps, Shawn on the XE4 was in the lead all 4 laps, but the Starks were right with him thru the first 3 laps. The XE4 is using a motor built by Mark Peroni at XEMX1.com as well as the quick change battery system (approx. 10sec change) The battery change is a beautiful thing to see. Shawn changed the battery every lap, but he could have squeeked out 2 laps out of one battery, but no need. Throttle one...

So cool!!! Who were the 3rd and 4th finishers?

Where did the Starks finish, and did they even finish at all? I wouldn't be surprised if none of the Starks finished the 4 laps. This is a super-long 1-hour and 16-minute race, the track looked soft, and the pace was very brisk and brutal on the brakes and the battery. They would have had to ride this track slowly and without brakes in order to just ride for one hour at this pace!

Shawn Clark #56 DIY Yamana came 1st.

??? #204 came in 4th.
The holeshot Stark #214 ran only 2 laps.
Stark #7 ran only 3 laps.

From what I was told is that the first Stark finisher was 11th #7B Thunder McHaffie, Shawn had the fastest lap times, I think you are right the 2 fastest Starks #214 and #38B only finished 2 laps, probably close to 3 laps. #38B was only 1 sec behind Shawn at the end of lap 2. All 3 were all close the 1st lap Now Shawn stopped every lap for a new battery, he thinks he might have been able to squeak out 2 laps out of one battery, but he wanted power. A battery change was only about 10 seconds, and proved to be the answer. I don't know what the other bikes were, I wish they provided more info.

I mean, who would invent a race for electric motorcycles such that none of the mass-produced electric motorcycles on the market can finish it?!!! And it just so happened, also completely by chance, that a local DIY genius makes the quickest battery-swapping technology in the world!

Boy, your a poor sport... They shortened the race from 5 laps to 4 so more could finish. Did you happen to notice that the leader of all laps was the XEMX1, even with a 10 second battery change every lap.
We need to design a SuperCharger for the Stark battery. Real easy to do, the battery on the Stark is 100S4P 360V nominal, 420 peak. Full discharge approx. 300V. Build a 540V battery 4P cells, and just connect them together foe 5 or 10 seconds and the will equalize at 420V.. Stand back though, there will be a lot of current flowing, no, You would need to bring it on slowly with the Resistor banks. still only a few seconds. Lets build one Phillip

You have to agree with my observations about the length of the race though. It is un-winnable unless you buy/build a bike with a swappable battery.

If I were to do such radical and expensive things to a Stark Varg, I would rather buy a second battery and either make it lighter or make it swappable, or both. Or buy a second bike. I would rather not build a lithium bomb out of a perfectly good bike. It is too easy to blow up those fusible links if we want to push the limits of charging speeds.

Shawn actual was the only E bike to do 5 laps. Because he made it thru before the checkered flag was raised.
The race time is determined by the fastest rider on the first lap. Normally one of the Junior A riders from row 1. (approx..) 1 hour plus 16 min. the checked Flag goes out. So I have no say in how long they are.

I also race on Sunday but start on row 8. So I have a disadvantage of 8 min from the flag. Laps are some times twice as long as Saturdays races. This is one of the reasons I designed and built the this way. I like to compete at 30 to 60 miles races. Sunday morning is for the 35 year old's and up. 1 hour plus one lap. around 28-30 min laps.
Sunday afternoons go 2 hours plus a lap. Shawn was also running the XE4 in some of the races last year and taking first place.

It was just common sense to me. FYI. By the way you never have to actually take the battery out of the XE4.
You can run it till the battery is depleted and recharge it in the bike. Just like a Stark.... the difference is you
have to over haul the Stark to change the battery out.
