Yes I'm pretty sure of that also.
I'll see what I do in the next 2 months I think.
Keep us posted. I'm interested in a light weight portable charger (can be low 1kW). I'd be super interested if someone made a ccs type 2 cable that communicated with the bikes BMS to fast charge it without the need to carry a charger.

I think that's the first time I see someone who managed to do this backpack thing and actually plug it to a charging station.
Kudos to that guy, and to you for finding this and posting it here.

This shows this shouldn't be terribly hard for Stark to have an onboard charger when they release their first proper road bike. Somehow I don't think an onboard charger will be included for the incoming supermoto, the lack of it would be even weirder than for the EX.
Has anyone posted an adaptor to go from USA public EV charging stations to a plug that the Stock Stark charger can connect to? I have not seen one yet.

I just ended up getting my stock charger replaced with Stark under warranty. The new one came wtih a formed plug instead of the screwed on one that shipped originally. They were great to work with, but did not seem happy to hear I had removed the charger from the original case. Anyone hear of anything documented on it voiding our warranty? I still got a replacement, but they may have just been being nice.

Can't tell that for US. But in Europe a working method is:
- remove the charger from box and put it in a backpack, tank or tailbag,
- get an adaptor like this, it can be put into charging stations and has a
standard power outlet on the other side. You can then plugin the power cable from the
varg charger.

Thanks, that is what I am looking for, but for a US charger. Unfortunately not all the public EV chargers are even the same here. So annoying.

These EV connector types seem to be the most common in the US :
SAE J1772 – Type 1 (AC)
NACS (both AC and DC)
CCS - Type 1 (DC)
CHAdeMO (DC)

Then, you could only get an adapter for the Stark AC charger with SAE J1772 and/or NACS.

But beware, it will deliver 240V, like we have in Europe, not the 110–120V you have.

I previously shared made in China Type 2 (IEC 62196-2) to type F (Schuko) adapters before, but I don't trust them.
The only one that that comes with EV cars is made by Metron and I got a brand new unit on a second hand site for half the price.

I believe that our US Stark Chargers are supposed to be able to do 240 or 120. Stark did tell me that the charger won't work well with the 30 Amp RV plug we have at campsites and generators. They said it is limited to 16 amps or something.

RV 30 amp plugs are only 120v. You can charge your stark on 120v if you have an adapter.
The charger is much faster on 240v.

The EVPT23-32010 is the Stark charger, so you can put it in a backpack, exactly like in this picture.
But as I said, I think the fan is a bit exposed and prone to damage.

I didn't get an answer from EVPT but I asked to TC what would be the required quantity to redesign a new charger like 1kw or 1.8kw but more compact and it's even more than I expected, 5000 units.
So only a company like Stark could do it...

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do, but if I have to buy a second charger, I'll probably go for the HK-MF-312-10, as the weight is close to the 1.8kw charger, but the quality and engineering feels much better and more robust.
Great thread, thank you! I've been spending hours trying to figure this out for my incoming EX... not having charging abilities on the road/trail is a huge downer. In any case, How difficult is it to modify the HK-MF-312-10 with the input cord and Stark output cords?

Hello,

To all the EX and street legal MX users out there, are you interested in a more portable charger?

From what I've learn in the past few days, to be compatible, the charger needs to be :
1. in CAN1000 protocol (CAN Baud Rate 250KBS) to communicate with the BMS
2. in the voltage range of the Stark battery (Battery Nominal Voltage 360V)

I contacted both EVPT and TC Charger, I gathered some information and here are the results.
I found 2 chargers that would do the job and be a bit better than a second EVPT23 (the original charger that comes with the Varg).
The EVPT is basically rebranded 3rd gen 3.3kw TC charger (HK-J-312-10).
The HK-MF-312-10 charger is a 4th gen 3.3kw TC charger (lighter and more compact).

The RA2P0360 is a 2kw charger and, I think, an older tech/gen charger, as it's not displayed on the TC charger website in the OBC category.
But still, the efficiency is specified to be the same for the 3 chargers (≥93%).

The EVPT23-32010 costs 552.50€ (15% discount, excluding tax) on evshop.eu
TC Charger gave me 2 quotes :
For the HK-MF-312-10 : $390 per unit + $150 (DHL shipping) for 1 unit or $360 for 3 units (excluding tax)
For the RA2P0360 : $190 per unit + $150 (DHL shipping) for 3 to 10 units (excluding tax)

The Stark power cord and charging cable cost 140€ (98,90€ + 39€) and they need to be modified to the proper connectors on the charger side.

The end goal would be to build a case to protect the parts that need it (connectors and maybe a fan).
I found someone who built something like this for the EVPT23-32010 (200€ excluding tax), but I think I could do something in 3D printing that would do the trick and be much cheaper.

Someone already put the EVPT23-32010 in a backpack, but I'm not a fan of not protecting the connectors, and the fan is much more exposed than on the HK-MF-312-10 and RA2P0360.

In comparison, a complete charger with the big and heavy useless case cost 999€ (including tax).

If you want to take a look, you'll find the PDFs attached.
Has the person who put the EVPT23 into a tank case described/talked about his experience? What bag did he use? is it cumbersome? Did it affect his ride experience? Any problems plugging into charging stations? (ie. which specific types of charging stations are doable with his Schuko to charging station connector?). For me, this is definitely the way to go.


I've spent time looking at constructing a top case plate/supports... but unless it is right over the subframe supports (and hence taking up a ton of valuable seat real estate and hitting you in the back on downhills/obstacles), I worry that it'll bend/break the plastic fender, and possibly bend the distal tips of the subframe.
