For the past few months, my 2018 MXR has been intermitted black screen dead (no sound or noise from bike) when key is turned to On position. I suspected the 9 Volt to be the culprit. I successfully replaced the 9 volt battery last night and it has appeared to solve the key On problem. I have read many posts that the original 9 volt battery was the Energizer Advanced Lithium. When I opened by ACM last night, my battery was an Energizer Ultimate Lithium. Fortunately, the Energizer Ultimate Lithium is easy to find at many stores. Also, I was able to maneuver the ACM and get the access cover removed (it definitely tried my patience) to replace the 9 volt without pulling the main battery and disconnecting all the other stuff.

Where did you get that batter connector from? For those of you pulling the black box out, are you pulling it out down below or up through the hole above near where the key is? Are you turning it sideways? How are you wiggling!!
Unscrew it under the seat , it is not located like in the alta video.

Hi Sam. The battery connector is located inside the ACM box. Once you remove the Delta wing, you will need to remove the screws that are holding the ACM. Once the ACM is loose, you will be able to adjust its placement just enough so that you can access the battery compartment to change the battery. Definitely, there is not much wiggle room space to work with during this battery changing process. Patience and finesse are helpful while changing the 9 volt battery.

So I am planning to do the 9V battery replacement on my 2018 SM next week. I watched the Alta video about the ACM extraction; it refers to a separate video that shows how to remove the main battery. However, I can't seem to find this video on Youtube. (I found this guy's teardown but in the end he just complains he can't figure out how to unclip the HV connector.)

Does anyone know where I can find the battery removal video?

Thanks!

You can actually replace the 9v without dropping the pack. It takes some finesse, but it’s certainly possible.
