Don't over think it. Go with a good quality fluid like Motul 660 but more important, change/flush it with new every 6 months or more often under extremes conditions.

thanks for the response. I read someone say something about using mineral oil which is what I use on my mountain bikes, but never in any dirtbike I've owned
I'll get some motul thanks!

Dot 4 if you're fancy. Once a year is a good rule. I personally do brake flushes, replace wheel bearings, check/lube swingarm/linkage bearings, etc.... once a year all at once as preventative maintenance. But if you like doing it more often, knock yourself out. I can't convince my car customers to do a brake flush once every 4 years.

Hahaha my 2015 Honda Civic with over 200,000 miles has never had a brake flush and I owned it since new. And it has never had a clutch either. Only 2 parts have been replaced ever (besides normal wear stuff). 1 water pump at around 150k and 1 AC compressor at 180k.

I have given thought to another car or truck possibly E but it is hard to beat the value. I have carriers and can load my Stark or my mountain bikes on my Civic to get to my riding area (divorce special). Only maintenance has been religious oil changes at 3k miles I don't care what the manual says...

So what? Apples and oranges.

My 2013 Korean car has 220 miles and never a brake flush but I don't ask for it the same as my bikes.

Let's move on.

Context??? It wasn't a comparison i.e. no apples no oranges.

Read the last sentence in the post that was quoted (you know the one about CAR CUSTOMERS...).

The context is this thread is about M/C brake fluid. Then you jumped in about your civic.
Read the post the context was clear. I was responding to abnormal wrenches post which was clearly quoted. And I was not quoting you or deliberately referring to anything you said. If you don't like the conversation don't read it. If you want to be topic police please do so in your own conversations.

Can you let me know when you're in my area, so I can make sure I'm not on the same roads you are?

I work on cars for a living, and I see your car almost every day. "Never had a problem", until the brakes suddenly fail. Because shocking news for those that don't know, if you don't do maintenance, it will work until it doesn't. And I'd prefer not to be on the same road when you suddenly discover the super obvious result of that attitude.

Typically motorcycle forums are way over the top on maintenance, and I avoid those dumb arguments about how often to change engine oil or what have you. I really don't get brake fluid flushes though. It costs $5 and takes 10 minutes. What are we even talking about here?

I am not against fluid changes or flushes and I have been driving for over 50 years without an accident and you would probably rather see me on your streets than many others. I make sure my cars are well maintained and I do my own work or have them serviced by mechanics I know and trust.

300k miles on my last Civic and I have 200k on my current one and intend to get 300k at least on this one. If my cars need a brake job --which is rare for me-- I will get new brake fluid. I make sure that fluids are always maintained at the proper level any significant deviation in fluid level would be my greatest concern. Intrusions of dirt and water usually start with improperly maintained levels.

And fluids do wear especially from heat, dirt, corrosion but in well maintained sealed systems they can last much longer than expected. Differentials in old school American cars are perfect example of this, many of which lasted the lifetime of vehicles with never being opened or even topped off.

For me bikes are different. I do brake fluid on my dirtbikes at least yearly with my Stark and Yamaha and brakes and clutch (which is hydraulic) on my KTM.
