So I made an updated manual for the kit. The original manual was quite short and this should explain the whole process a bit more!

Hi all,

I am currently working on the improved version with a complete sheet metal inside construction. I am also making some improvements to the outside of the case and I noticed that the Varg charger has this hexagon pattern on it. The previous pattern was just randomly chosen, and therefore I am wondering whether you like the hexagon pattern more?

Left: hexagon new pattern, right: current pattern.

For reference the Stark charger:

First a big thank you to gewoontim for bringing up the idea with the KTM Freeride charger cases. Unfortunately he seems very busy and doesn't do the kits anymore. On the other hand this made me take a closer look at the Freeride housing and I found it to actually be an almost perfect fit with only some small modifications to the charger cable.

When you look at the parts it seems to be that the Varg charger is too high to fit into the Freeride housing. Nevertheless the issue is not with the charger itself but the connectors protruding by such a big amount. Fortunately those connectors are actually a multipart design and can be further disassembled:

Once you do that the height is absolutely perfect to the point that when tightening down the screws it actually locks the charger securely in place without the need for additional mounting hardware. Nevertheless there is a caveat and one ABSOLUTE CRUCIAL MODIFICATION is needed. Without that you would pinch the wires of the data/charging cable! So you need to cut (Dremel works best) a notch into the connector housing for the wires to have clearance - see red circle:

ChargerMod_2_Detail.jpg

The connectors are internally sealed but I did use some hot glue to further strengthen it and insure the wires will not be damaged with an additional rubber sheeting. There will be no load on those wires as the cable will be fixed to the housing just like stock. The result:

A couple of holes above the fan to draw air, a hole for the power cable which I'd like to be removeable from the outside and gluing in the left/right side louvers and you are done. Works perfectly with the charger hardly getting warm even at 3.3kW. Once you see how nice that solution is you stark asking yourself what Stark was thinking with the stock setup!

Hi all,

So I was indeed quite busy! I did however order some stock for a new batch of 10 pieces. As shipping to the US was really expensive, from now on @SilverSurfer will take care of orders in the US and maybe also Europe.

Who is interested in a black edition? I have 4 kits of the black edition ready, and 6 kits of the regular aluminium version.
Let me know, first come first serve!

A long overdue thumbs up for Tims Charger. He made a special version for me with both cables exiting on one side of the the charger. That way i can fit the entire charger in a backpack without distorting the cables. Once again many thanks - great idea and great execution.
