Have you tried using tha app on a device which is not the Stark smartphone? Does it work? Have you noticed any conflict with the interaction of the Stark phone with the motorcycle?
I guess that it should be usable provided the Varg phone is not running the app or, even better, if it's turned off.
This could be useful in case you forget or lose the Stark phone and especially for those people who have removed the phone cradle.
The only possilbe hazard that I see is that if your phone has been hacked someone can affect the behaviour of the bike, but I think it's an unlikely event.

Impossible to install.
But I stopped then without checking why.
Maybe the phone or Android version, no idea.

The app is locked to this phone model. Don't know the details but the publisher (Stark) can lock what kind of phone the app is possible to download to.

I've just noticed that in the FAQ pdf file downloadable from the Support section of the Stark website they have written that only the Stark phone can connect to the Varg.
No wonder then that the app is locked to that phone model.

I was watching the Launch video from over two years ago and the app appears to have been MUCH more comprehensive than it is currently. They were talking about making changes on your personal phone and then moving the changes to the stark phone, and having an iOS app as well... As well as full navigation, air time, a ridiculous amount of adjustability (which I love)... I wonder if they'll just be releasing iterative updates.

I am sure it could be done if you just root the phone and spoof the device fingerprint to the one that was issued to you. There is also the option of emulating android using bluestacks. You’d have to replicate starks device on hand and test a lot assuring everything is offline. But the SIM might play a role in it as well. You’d need a phone with dual SIM compatibility.

But there are use cases probably in place if an unknow device heartbeats to starks servers you’d probably get a nasty gram… or a possible bricked device/bike, with a voided warranty. Many ways stark can enforce protecting their products.

I did at one point on a Pixel 8 Pro. I don't remember if I had to do anything beyond Play Store to get it. Getting it linked over Bluetooth worked, but it was a hassle to set up, and after that the Stark phone wouldn't connect any more. Getting the Stark phone reconnected was quite a hassle. I was hoping I could use my regular phone to check the battery level and such when I didn't have the Stark phone handy, but no dice. Seems like it's pretty much strictly one phone at a time.

I just installed the Varg app on my Fairphone 5, since the Varg phone for some reason has an Android version that's bound to Google. I don't know about you, but I mind having my location sent to Google on a regular basis.

What I did was dowloading the app as an .xapk file, then rename it to .zip and uncompress that. That left me with these guys:

Code:
com.stark.moto.apk
config.arm64_v8a.apk
config.en.apk
config.mdpi.apk

I uploaded them one by one: adb push config.mdpi.apk /sdcard/Download

The I installed SAI | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository and marked all of the above files at the same time to install. That worked like a charm.

Then I logged in and connected to the bike. I had to restart the app to get it to use bluetooth properly. But now I have a completely de-googled Stark setup.

Android is still open source, so you can use it without having to send Google all of your personal information 24/7. The variant of AOSP I use is called /e/OS and does not have any proprietary Google software or services installed.

I am impressed, nice work! What is now your plan for mounting the Fairphone 5 to your Varg?

I've come to the conclusion that I don't really give the phone much attention while driving. I drive mainly enduro on pretty narrow trails, and have a comfortable setting on slot 1, so I don't keep track of the current speed, and I never switch program/level. So right now I'll just keep the phone in my pocket:)

How To Root Any Blackview Device Using Magisk [No TWRP Required]

Here in this guide, we will provide you the steps to Root any Blackview device Using Magisk [No TWRP required]. Blackview devices are pretty much rugged outdoor smartphones with a tough body and bigger battery capacity. Rooting allows an Android smartphone user to work like a superuser. It offers administrator access to system settings and the app so that you can customize or change it according to your preference. However, the smartphone OEMs don’t provide rooting access by default to keep things simple with the stock version.

The Stock Firmware doesn’t come with too many options or customizations. Rooting your device may void your device warranty or brick your device easily. Meanwhile, it can be vulnerable as well. Additionally, you can install any Custom ROMs and mod files on your rooted device easily. However, the Custom ROM installation process requires bootloader unlocking as well.

So, if you’re using any Blackview device that runs on MediaTek CPU, then you should check out the full guide to enable root access on your device using Magisk. It won’t require Custom TWRP Recovery.

Advantages: Rooting

  • Can flash Custom ROMs or Mods easily
  • Running special access-type apps
  • Extend Device Battery Life
  • Can free up internal memory by removing unnecessary files
  • Full of Customizations
  • Uninstall Bloatware

Disadvantages: Rooting

  • Rooting will void your device warranty mostly
  • Improper rooting may brick your smartphone
  • Battery Heating, Occasional Reboots, etc may occur
  • Poor System Performance even after updating your device to the latest firmware
  • The device may become vulnerable

Steps to Extract and Patch Boot.image using Magisk

  • After downloading the Stock ROM, simply extract it on your PC.
  • Now, connect your Blackview device via a USB cable and copy the boot.img file only from the extracted folder to your device storage.
  • Open the Magisk Manager on your device. Select the Install option to choose the file.
  • Now, tap on ‘Patch Boot Image File’.
  • head over to the folder where you moved the image file earlier.
  • Now, wait for a couple of seconds and Magisk will start patching the boot image.
  • Once the boot image is patched, copy the ‘patched_boot.img’ from the internal storage and replace it in the same extracted ROM folder on your PC.
Now, follow the second step to flash the patched boot image file.

Steps to Install the Patched Boot Image on any Blackview Device

Follow the link mentioned below for a full detailed guide on how to install a patched boot image on any MediaTek device.

You can also try using the ADB & Fastboot method to install the patched boot image file.
  • We assume that you have already downloaded the ADB & Fastboot tool from the link given above.
  • Next, you need to extract the ADB fastboot tool, and then move the patched boot image file to the same folder.
  • Press and hold the Shift key and right-click on the mouse to open the Command Window.
  • Then type the following command in the command prompt and hit enter:
fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
  • For devices with an A/B partition system, type and enter the following command:
fastboot flash boot_a patched_boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b patched_boot.img
  • You need to replace the filename.img with the name of the TWRP Recovery IMG file that you have downloaded.
  • The flashing process will begin. Wait for a few seconds to complete the process.
  • Now, type the following command and press enter:
fastboot reboot

Steps to Verify Device Systemless Root:

  1. Download the Magisk Manager app APK file > install it on your device and open it.
  2. Now, you need to verify the root. Go to the Status mode. If you see all options are green-checked, that means you have successfully rooted. It also means that you’ve bypassed the SafetyNet as well.
  3. That’s it. Enjoy Rooting!

I googled so much! I never found that info. Instead I bricked my Varg Phone so not even the boot loader works 😅

Yea I mean this is for people who have a strong background in computers. This post was intended to lean on the possibilities of anything. So long users know what to do after rooting a device.

Just keep in mind stark may have ways to fingerprint behavior with rooting so know how to mask your tracks. This will void your warranty and if they suspect an intrusion they could brick the phone and bike. I would do this all in enclosed sandbox, remove the SIM and disable communications.

But this methodology could allow the end users to create backups and move system files to other devices. Also, you could manipulate system files like total hours ran on the bike… cough cough. The data is server side but there are still ways around this i am sure.

This is for educational purposes only and I shared it as a tool for people who have bricked their stark phones and need a way of backing it up and restoring it.

Bricking the bike would be a bit authoritarian. You bought the bike, it should be yours to do with as you please. I mean, I bricked my Varg phone, and i would lever expect them to replace it. It's quite obvious that's on me 😅

Yea i don’t know i mean i have seen this with Xbox’s and ps, especially with JTAGS and NAND bypasses for dev kits (xdk) lol. Whatever could be in the TOS I guess.

You guys also have the option to use Bluestacks which is an emulator.
