Just picked up an EX and my turn signal switch is very difficult to use. I have to push in on the switch and then awkwardly nudge it left or right - and sometimes that doesn’t even work. Is this normal behavior for this switch?

i have a similar behavier. not that bad but the switch is not reliable as
a turn signal should be. did some dry practice in the garage to get the best force- vector
to be applied on the knob…

It's a terrible switch. You have to press it with minimal force and at a weird angle instead of directly left or right, and even then it has very minimal feedback with gloves on so you have to visually confirm. On mine trying to indicate left will hit the right indicator instead about 20% of the time. You do sort of get used to it over time, but still clunky compared to any other handlebar controls I've used. The last firmware update increased the amount of time the blinkers are on for (when using a short press) which I found was a nice usability improvement.

Same issue here, pushing left the switch hits are a hard stop while right has a nice click and works. I just ordered a new unit from Lithium, arrived 2 days later and is notable better. Even the mode buttons feel better. Original mode buttons were constantly sticking in the depressed position.

That switch should be covered under warranty.

i can confirm with my EX that the switch is awful... its need to be pressed in first and then to the sides... makes no sense

Seriously. I thought I was getting the hang of it, but then could not consistently get it to stay on for left indication yesterday. Signalling to the right was somehow fine though. I don't know who thought this switch was a good design - it's so bad!

Also, why do I have to hold the switch to get it to stay on for more than 2 blinks? I guess that's fine for lane changes, but for actual turns, it would just be easier if it stayed on until cancelled. I'm had decades to get used to managing my indicator on every other bike I've owned, I don't need or want it to work this way - so why can't I change that in the settings somewhere?

If someone comes up with an aftermarket indicator switch, I'm buying it...

I needle filed a minimal amount of material from the either side of the switch body where it sits in the aluminium housing and slightly chamfered with the a needle file the inside of the housing hole and it's easy and consistent to use now
Cheers

So my EX switch had the indicator issue as well, but was otherwise working fine until it didn't - electronics gone! Stark sent me a new one and with this one the indicator switch was surprisingly working just fine in both directions - it seemed to be the same revision switch as the original one, so no obvious changes there. BUT the on/off button was sticking now  I'd agree that the design itself is the issue requiring perfect tolerances of all the parts involved (body, button and membrane) and there seems to be nobody doing final testing on it once assembled. With the button itself it helped to use a dremel and a polishing wheel on the button seat in the switch body - made it much better, but still not as smooth as the first switch. I may end up tying to combine the parts of both switched and hopefully end up with a properly working one. Nevertheless this issue doesn't bother me so much as I'm using the MX 1.2 switch anyway and have the EX one only as a spare, but it is just one more of these nagging little issues that start to add up ...
