Without knowing the cut-off for the battery issues I’d go for the latest VIN. The demo falls in the range of known 2018 MXR battery failures.

Hey fellas. Are there any differences between the 2018 and 2019 MXR models?

On paper no. There were some manufacturing process QC problems with some 2018 MXR's batteries so the safe(r) bet is with a 2019 or a 2018 that already had a battery replacement under warranty. That doesn't mean all 2018's will have battery problems however.

Not sure about the VIN cutoff but my title says 2019 on it as well as the sticker on the right side of the steering neck. FWIW, my VIN ends with 000484.

10th digit of the vin number corresponds to the year. "K" for 2019 and "J" for 2018. This applies to all motorcycles, atv's, and utv's that are 1981 or newer

Sequence number was carried over from MXR18 to MXR19. As AES said the letter in the 10th digit is the Model Year.
