€50 million investment in Stark Future by Royal Enfield parent company

I don't think road bikes are going to be viable for quite some time. Think about it, if you can't get more than 100-150 miles out of a charge, that's not a lot of driving unless you're bound to 35mph in city-scape. The only thing that will get them there is new battery tech and that's not a fast...

I was sitting on the STARK VARG !!

Looks cool. Despite loving the heck out of my Alta, I sure hope Stark can get the momentum to stick around. It won't be a night and day difference. But a production bike is a production bike. There will undoubtedly be delays, bugs, and half truths/marketing hype galore to go along with the...

    Alta - Stark rant

I highly recommend getting the factory dongle paired to a Linux laptop. You get to see everything on the bike and it's actually not all that bad to get used to. You will be able to see when the cells are starting to have problems instead of just waiting around for codes to pop up (by then it...

    New alta mxr owner

Sounds like you have a module with broken bond wires. I had a corroded 0 module (at the bottom of the stack) due to water or condensation ingress. From my experience, the BMS is pretty bad at getting imbalances corrected, even small ones. Without opening the module and very closely pre-balancing...

    Price increase 1k

Darn... looks like I missed the window. Just got my EXR fixed so I wasn't sure if I was going to order one. What's the delivery schedule looking like?

    oil leak from front fork

I had an old Honda trail bike with a similar issue. I sanded and polished it out really well. I know it's not an MX bike, but it's still going strong. It might only pass over that spot for split seconds at a time so chances are low it will severely impact the oil levels, but keep an eye on it...

Confused about watt numbers for a 240v genarator

Good point about the elevation. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to re-jet the carb on a generator. But if you could, then theoretically you might have a little less wattage drop. You might burn a bit more fuel as a tradeoff.

    25 watt LED headlight

Holy crap! I ordered a set for my EXR and installed it last night. Wow! They are bright little suckers 😳 One note to share before installing them, you might want to figure out which kernels are the low beams and brights. The prism in my headlamp didn't reflect the high beams almost whatsoever...

Confused about watt numbers for a 240v genarator

Essentially, you want your generator to provide 10-20% more running watts than the peak draw. Long story short, you basically just want a little bit of overhead in the capability for the good of the generator, not because you empirically need it. For example, if you are drawing 4000W constant...

    Off-Road Range Guess?

I did a lap from Fairfax City, VA to the national mall in Washington DC. Road pressure tires, map 2, and doing highway speeds (55mph) for the first half on my EXR. I want to say it was roughly 45 miles round trip and I was just about pushing the thing back to the garage on the second half, but...

    MXR Negative Contact Relay Failure........

I talked to Rashid about it today. He said it's there as an extra option to get the contactors to open/close in case they get stuck because of a micro weld. The other option is to tap it with a rubber hammer. Sounds like my kid of engineering 😆

    MXR Negative Contact Relay Failure........

What does the "force contactors" button do on the battery screen? I've tried to avoid most options until I'm comfortable with them, but there's no explanation for stuff like this that I could find so far.

Does anybody know how to reset code 37

If you remove the bottom cover, be sure to get some replacement butyl rubber for the seal around the edge. I would make sure you don't have any corrosion on your zero module. If you do, then you really want to make sure it's neutralized before closing it back up (in addition to the other...

Livewire is going public. Alta DNA now with 21700 batteries

Kind of wish Alta could've stuck around long enough for the 21700s and 80hp motor (not that you really need that much output in dirt anyway). It would've been neat to see the range and weight difference they might've come up with. Guess we'll see who comes up with the next EV ideas.

    Alta battery pack rebalance capability

I ended up charging individual parallel banks until they were topped up enough to be close to the original cells.

Houston we have a problem ! Code 36

Mine had a lot of corrosion on the cells that eventually bit the dust so I know your plight. That being said, I have a virtual machine loaded onto my laptop running the old version of Ubuntu in order to communicate with the bike. It needed a $70 adapter and the little connector to interface...

    Alta battery pack rebalance capability

I was going to ask in a separate post about bench balancing. Are there any threads about this so I'm not asking a bunch of the same things again? I have a new 0 module that's way out from my original cells and need to bring them up to see if I can finally clear the 36 code and get it working...

    2019 Alta MXR down

I need to do some level charging, but at least my bike is possibly going to be usable again soon.

    Re-sealing the battery

I'm additionally interested to know what thermal paste to use (and how much) when resealing my pack after balancing and replacing the zero module. Will any Butyl tape with similar dimensions work? The link given is OOS with no anticipated restock date.

    2019 Alta MXR down

I've thought of that as well, actually. Problem being is once the corrosion separates the bond wires, it's basically hosed. They have very tiny micro welds that hold them on and they're actually made to break in case of emergency, so they're basically sacrificial from the get-go. Combine that...
