New high performance E-MX from Germany

It’s a generic pack in the model. It’s has the ability to fit the entire Alta battery pack within its volume plus room for a generic controller and active cooling system. The simple shape facilitates the incorporation of many different kinds of cells, capacities, voltages, etc. It’s designed...

New high performance E-MX from Germany

My solution in work right now at MSC Engineering. Actually, this was my original design and the current linkage design has changed.

    Another code 36

That looks much better . . . . . So, the other screen shot was at about 50%? That suggests the charging and balance system is working properly. However, if the reported cell voltages are real, it also suggests problems during discharge. Worse case is that, somehow, those cells got damaged...

    Another code 36

That's a new one to me. If I had to guess, I'd say the DRB card is going bad/data corruption or the LTC chip is bad/data corrupted. Have you tried reloading the BRD and BCU firmware. I'd start there first.

    Another code 36

I'd definitely need a screen print of the battery tab to determine worse case. That said, I can repair your pack if you can get it to me here in SoCal.

    Alta Custom Build

Robinhood, are you in Lakewood Ca (by bellflower/long beach etc)? If so, I'm just down the road in Corona now (I've lived in Lakewood, Bellflower and Long Beach before I retired). There's so many challenges in what you and Chris are trying to do . . . some can be worked around but others...

    DIY conversions can be dangerous!

good point.... I’ve been building conversions with battery packs/BMS systems for almost two years now and haven’t sold one conversion to date. Why?....,until I get several hundred SUPERVISED charge/discharge cycles and many physical inspections in the books without failure I just don’t trust my...

    DIY conversions can be dangerous!

Electric Motorcycle Builds : The end of the electric rmz Lucky nobody was hurt, but it shows just how vulnerable these Li-Ion based battery packs can be to getting damaged by an external failure or individual cell internal failure. There are so many failure modes which could have contributed to...

Alta motor specs parameters and or files

Soooooooo….. You have an Alta but it's not working? You're looking to buy an Alta, maybe a broken (cheaper) one? Or, you're just trying the understand the Alta engineering so you can build something similar?

I'm building a bike to race the series as I couldn't get an alta at a fair price. Details of build

Seems like anyone with a cheap China spot welder is making their own battery packs these days. Although I applaud and respect anyone with the fortitude to DIY, I'm seeing some very unsafe designs. I'm talking 18650 style packs now, prismatic and pouches are another ballgame. Now I'll...

    Code 37 second time.

Yea, I'd need to see the battery tab view to be sure. Exactly, the BMS on the Alta has a very weak balance current compared to most of the aftermarket BMS's I work with. Even the el-cheapo China units allow connectivity, manual balance and adjustable balance current.

    Code 37 second time.

85.61 vs 85.65. That's 0.04v delta. Doesn't sound like much at the module level but look at the max/min P group numbers, 4.07 and 4.08. That's 0.01v, I've seen code 36 with less than that. These BMS's will typically balance (if left to finish) to within .002v. 4.07/8 is almost full. I'd...

    Code 37 second time.

Not sure about the humidity problem but I'm surprised you're not getting a code for battery pack imbalance, module 1 is quite a bit lower than the others.

MSC Eng developing cell replacement process

The warning in my original post speaks for itself. I appreciate the concern for my well being and I assure everyone that I'm very respectful of the awesome power and potential for damage that these (and any other) battery packs are capable of. Virtually a "controlled release" of energy...

MSC Eng developing cell replacement process

Finally, I'm working on a bike that needs several P-groups totally replaced due to a failure with the balancing system. These groups discharged way below the low voltage cutoff, one totally dead! You just can't wake them up and expect safe, reliable and adequate performance after that...
