Racing an alta mx in UK enduro series

Correct - up to a point. Acceleration of a "wheeled" vehicle requires the additional component of inertia thrown in. The wheels are the principle factor, but anything that spins has inertial properties. The mass centrodes (mostly the tires and rims) is multiplied by the square of the distance...

Getting rid of regen if possible

Flash the older version onto the Inverter only and you'll get most of the benefits of the newer firmware only with the old inverter programming (which I think has the various lookup tables for regen braking).

Racing an alta mx in UK enduro series

I'd say the pack's about the equivalent of 3/4 gal of gas. If you can make it on 3/4 gal you'd probably go dead just as you cross the finish line, lol.

A little bit about my 2008 YZ250F Electric Conversion

No, it's a "name brand" inertial dyno with DIY upgraded software from a company in Australia. On the drum the Alta will almost tear the knobbies off at lower speeds, but it does fall off. Surprisingly, it's not uncontrollable on the track as we all know. I think that's due to a good choice...

A little bit about my 2008 YZ250F Electric Conversion

I've got a BAC8000 just sitting right now. I'm planning on running it in the Yamaha as soon as I complete all my Sevcon testing. The Sevcon has so many bells and whistles it's taking forever to try all the various combinations and assess the performance both on the dyno and on the track. I'm...

    Sorry, no, just MXs.

A little bit about my 2008 YZ250F Electric Conversion

I think I heard that Curtis using DTC rather than FOC. If you have a preference you might want to verify this.

Until they can show they’re in a semi “production” mode with more than one or two prototypes, I’d say it’s still a “one off”.

    what cells are you running?

36v per pack in series sounds most likely. From my desk, there’s no silver bullet in 18650s (or any chemistry commercially available right now). You need to look closely at the spec sheet. Look for voltage sag numbers at the levels they’ll be running, probably 25-35 (or more) amps per cell...

Want to buy Looking for MX in Orange County CA

I might sell one of my two MXs, depends how much you want to spend. I'm pretty local to you, in Corona. I have upgraded suspension and a few minor tweaks to make it faster. One BIG advantage of buying from me is that I can fix just about anything that can break on the Alta; mechanical...

Want to buy Wanted Alta Mx ...

I might sell one of my two MXs, depends how much you want to spend. I'm pretty local to you, in Corona. There are two moto versions, the MX and the MXR. The MXR has more power and better suspension. I have the MX model with upgraded suspension and a few minor tweaks to make it faster. One...

MSC Engineering YZ conversion ready for track testing

Cams a good guy, helps me a lot. I can get 600 out of it without issue on an MX type track/duty cycle. Continuous I'll probably never test as it's just not a condition I'll ever encounter. When Bryan Haskell rode it he got the motor pretty hot and the pack was still around 45c. I put a...

MSC Engineering YZ conversion ready for track testing

The problem is not the controller, its my battery pack not being able to supply the required amps/voltage. I have a BAC8000 I'll be trying just for comparison, however.

MSC Engineering YZ conversion ready for track testing

The standard voltage for the DHX Hawk 40 was 96v at the time I ordered mine, which was awhile ago. They advertised that they could do custom voltages as well, so I ordered a 72v option to match my planned battery pack. DHX sent me the spec sheet for the 72v version for my approval before...

MSC Engineering YZ conversion vs Alta

More video added to my original post. This time head-to-head against one of my personal Altas ridden by Matt Cerami. Matt's very familiar with the Alta having practiced and raced the Alta in the Pro class on several occasions. Conditions were quite different from those with Bryan Haskell...

MSC Engineering YZ conversion vs Alta

A short video of my YZ conversion going head-to-head with our own Bryan Haskell on one of his Altas. The Alta is the benchmark for electric moto so the comparison was enviable. Being down 7-10hp against the Alta (map 4), the outcome was also quite enviable. However, I've still got a few...

Cool, good info. I would have guessed that simply terminating the can bus using a 120 ohm resistor would have worked. I guess you tried that and it didn't. Must be looking for acknowledgment messages.

    Alta Custom Build

Details about the Alta controller wont help. It's a proprietary design and you'd need to re-create the entire Alta electrical/electronic system for it to function properly. Might as well buy an entire complete bike at that point, lol. You need to find a good PMAC 300-400v 30-50kw/hr FOC/SVM...

    Alta Custom Build

The biggest issue is getting a 300-350v controller/inverter setup that'll work with that motor (at least at a reasonable size/weight/price). Most of the high voltage stuff commercially available is for EV Cars and way too big. The IGBT Module is only part of the controller solution. If you...
