Withdrawn Wheels & Suspension For Sale

To avoid another "e-bay front fender" fiasco let it be known that any late model KTM or Husky REAR wheel (18 or 19) will fit your Alta just fine as will the 20mm (small) axle, spacers and chain adjusters. It's NOT the exact same hub/rim (Alta uses Warp 9) but they're just as good if not better...

    Electric Bike Action magazine

I had a subscription since both my wife and I own e-bikes but it was too full of advertisements without good offsetting content for me. I just use the web, it's much more current anyway.

Interesting, although the max rpm of ANY PMAC motor in their catalog is 9000, with 4000 being the max rpm for a similar Kw motor. They probably developed a rotor that could keep the surface mount magnets from flying off at high rpm, in this case 12,000 according to Alta. Rotors with interior...

For Sale Parts now available for sale

Phil, the transaction time isn't any more time consuming of course. But I can put "lookouts" in ebay that'll notify me if a certain item(s) comes up for bid and I typically don't need to act on that immediately as the auctions don't end for several days. With a storefront I might not know an...

I think ebay is the fairest (assuming no shill bidders). Otherwise, it'll be all about knowing when an item will hit the store and we'll all be fixated at constantly checking. Not a good way to spend your free time (or work . . . . ). Great for the Forum, however. At least with auctions you...

You think we got thermal problems with our packs now, switching to pouch cells would make that even worse given passive cooling. Plus the pack would probably weigh more as the energy/weight density isn't as good. I have no experience with Zero bikes but I'd expect they'd be unacceptable for...

Maybe just the opposite will happen! Now that folks know there are multiple copies of all the plastic I'd wait until round 4 or 5 to even place a bid. By then all the high rollers should be satisfied, lol.

Ok, I'll say it as well. I enjoy working on my "stuff" be it cars, bikes, bicycles, machine tools, guns, etc, just as much if not more than driving/riding/operating/shooting them. Definitely my nerd side! It's an itch that served me well for both my professional career and personal life...

MXR dead this morning... (and now alive!)

Philip, your problem isn't even cell related, DONT LET THE PACK GO as you'll regret it later. There's lots of diode fuses in the DC/DC downconverter which are easy to repair. All you need is an ohmmeter to check them. Hopefully it'll be something simple like that.

I guess we've all been very busy getting this great software to work. Now I just need to figure out what everything means! Data overload right now but some menu items are pretty straight forward.

    Replacing bad battery cells

I think you have a good plan and wouldn't hesitate to do it if it were my pack. I suspect getting the cell(s) out will be much easier than expected and soldering to positive end and gold plated PCB pads will be easy. Soldering to the EDGE of the cell housing (- end) is risky. If there's room...

    Replacing bad battery cells

Closer, but still not as dense as Alta. Plus, you really need some barrier between cells to reduce the chances of a cell going thermal and then propagating to the adjacent cell(s) creating a thermal runaway situation (lots of fireworks). The material and design (air space) Alta used for their...

It's my understanding that the 2170 cells don't quite scale 100% to the 18650s. In other words, the pack won't be quite as power/energy dense everything else being equal.

    Replacing bad battery cells

Alta probably spent bank on the molds for the cell supports (aka honeycomb, eggcrate, thermal shield). The only pack that I've seen that comes close to the cell density of the Alta pack is from NASA's LLB2 project. Of course, one could simply stack cells side-to-side in a staggered...

    Replacing bad battery cells

My recommendation, other than the obvious precautions regarding DEATH when working with high voltage, is to work on a bench equipped with wheels in an area with outside access. That way, if a cell decides to go thermal you can get the pack/module outside quickly where any resulting fire wont...

I don't even know the difference between Linux and Unix so installing this software is a major pain. Why couldn't it be Windows based?

We'd probably need to get our parts scanned. I had a handheld 3D scanner but just didn't use it enough so I sold it. I still have my Faro Arm and can use it to locate all the main interfaces/features and simply connect the dots in Rapidform. That's what I typically do. However, I don't think...

MXR dead this morning... (and now alive!)

I'd check for 12v at the battery pack I/O connector or ACM. On my 17 pack there are 2 red wires (relatively large gauge), a purple wire, and two black wires (grd). I believe the purple wire is part of the key-on system in that when the key is "on" it closes a relay inside the pack that...

MXR dead this morning... (and now alive!)

Someone needs to make extension cables that connects the battery I/O connector and high voltage wire connector to the bus connectors. That way you could do testing with another pack or with a repaired pack without a bunch of dis/re-assembly. Onelapper is our resident cable maker, maybe he's...

    Replacing bad battery cells

Based on some of the screen shots from Alta West I'd say you'd need to be within .005v on the parallel group and .05v at the module level for the system to pick up the remaining balance task. That means using a precision (lab grade) power supply capable of regulating current and voltage down to...
