    BAD NEWS

So let's just say, hypothetically, the worst happens and Alta announces real bad news. How does all remaining parts, tools, and equipment get liquidated? I've never researched what happens to company property if it goes belly up. Would there be an auction or some type of sale for...

    BAD NEWS

Well if anyone gets their hands on a new display, we can take the busted old one to develop any new fixes/repairs.

Do we know that the announcement will be bad??

    Broken display - solution?

That damage looks like an aluminum housing would have prevented cracking the screen.

    BAD NEWS

That's even easier. However I think we would have to make some changes to the design. Not sure how thick the plastic is, but we might want it thicker and I'm almost sure we would want to recess the display more than the plastic. The Faro scanner will get us all the info we need for the...

    BAD NEWS

Would you need the CNC file directly, or can you convert a 3d model? I haven't tried converting any of my model files into CNC code, so not exactly sure what you would need, but I can output virtually any type of model file. I'll talk to my co-workers about using our Faro scanner to get the 3d...

    Broken display - solution?

I doubt that the LCD displays were custom made. It's more likely a common size LCD. Without seeing the insides it's difficult to say how hard it would be to replace, but it's possible the display is easily sourced and all you need to do is de-solder the leads and re-solder onto the new...

    BAD NEWS

It shouldn't be too difficult to change the plastic case with an aluminum one. Has anybody opened this up? I'm wondering if it's only the display or if it has more brains in it. Anyone on here have access to a CNC Mill? Once I get my MXR (thanks again Scott!) I'll see about taking that...

    Possible sources for battery repair?

So if Alta comes back do you think they would have some battery refurbishment program or just sell new batteries after warranty? If they don't, then there is someone out their who just lost their job of soldering batteries into Alta battery packs. Maybe search monster or indeed for thier resume.

Our own Alta software/firmware team -- Join in

It sounds like the first thing (IF Alta does not come back) would be to dissect one of the "code 36" batteries. So far that sounds like the biggest challenge since we would have to rebuild the battery, and this could happen to more bikes I'm sure. At that point you could also dissect the...

    BAD NEWS

Does anyone know if the Alta Store is taking orders? I was able to create an account and up to checkout it looked like it was working. I'm guessing this is run directly by Alta and that any order will probably not be filled or delivered, even though it looks like I could pay for the item.

POLL - Have you had problems that required support from Alta Motors?

I'm not really worried about anything other than the battery and control hardware/software(including the display). Any part that isn't available off the shelf can be modeled and sent out for fabrication. I have access to photo-modeling and laser modeling tools, so if there is a proprietary...

Enough of the bad news. Let's talk Harbor Freight generators.

Just curious if anyone figured out how much gas they used charging from a generator and calculated the bikes gas mileage?

    BAD NEWS

If they did go bankrupt and they were selling off the business in bits, you could buy the battery portion for much less than what the whole company is worth. For future support the battery tech and the electrical designs/software are the most important piece to the owners. You don't...

POLL - Would you keep your Redshift...

Just wondering how many of you would definitely sell your Redshifts if Alta announces it is going out of business or files chapter 7/11.

    BAD NEWS

All those listed on cycle trader are in dealer showrooms and the dealers can't sell them. I'd be interested in buying either an EXR or MXR EVEN if Alta does go under. I'm pretty positive about the ability of the smart folks on this site and elsewhere to get the source code and figure out a way...

    BAD NEWS

I read that article and I don't really agree. A major point of the article was that Alta only focused on racing MX's, which is untrue. They have a dual sport and an SM and were working on another road bike. I also disagree that there is not enough demand, with growth numbers that they've...
