If you want to stick to dirt, go with the 60hp.
I've had my 80hp EX for 1 month and I'm glad I got the 80hp because I do both street and dirt.
I'm even going to order a set of supermoto wheels this month :)
I thought about reverse engineering it, but first I'm onto something else, a lighter and more portable charger.
I worked on something similar with some contacts in my activity of tuning cars and swapping engines/ECUs with different CANbus protocols.
In the US they have a kill switch that we don't have in Europe, at least not on mine in France.
I'd say it's plugged into 1 of the 2 red connectors.

Yes I just saw the kill switch on an EX on Youtube and found it on the Stark spare parts store.

FYI, I have an EX in France and we don't get this kill switch in EU from what I've seen...
Oh yes, I missed that detail, which is the most important one, yes type 2 is AC.
So it would still be possible with CCS and CHAdeMO, which are still quite easy to find here, but I have a feeling it won't be for tomorrow...
With the new EX, the best solution would be to get an adapter that works with traditional EV chargers first.
My guess is that a simple arduino could do it with the right adapters, but reverse engineering is something else...
It would have been so much better if they had worked on compatibility...
