Im of the belief a Helicoil will provide a stronger attachment than it originally had. The existing hole will act as a pilot to ensure squareness.

I have a new in unopened package Alta skidplate I was gonna put on my MX but never did. Ive since bought an EXR and it already has one. Price at Alta store is $188, sell for $130.

Cycra is pretty much the gold standard in barkbusters. I also like the bar tapping option over the cam lock type bar mounts for a more sturdy setup. On my MX I use Cycra Pro Bends with Cycra mounts without issue, cant believe the SM would be any different.
