240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

+1 ! It would be cool to have maybe a 380V? pack, so the inverter could be eliminated completely and the Alta charging circuit driven direct (don't know where you'd find a suitable 380V charger, though). Definitely not Electronics 101 projects. :)

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Well... you could power a 48V inverter with four 12V 200aH batteries in series, which would give well over 4kW for 2 hours (more than enough for one 240V rapid charge). You'd still need to charge these batteries, but I'm sure there are a number of 48V chargers available (a lot of smaller EV's...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

It really is too bad that a schematic of the Alta charger isn't available - it would be so easy to see if a high-voltage battery pack could feed the charger circuits directly, instead of converting 12VDC to 240VAC to 350VDC with all the associated problems of each conversion.

    NRC fender eliminator

Well, the 39 ohm value is just a guess on my part; you could also get 43 / 47 / 56 ohm 5W resistors (they're cheap) and see what the minimum keep-alive current actually is - that's what I'd do, it's good info to have. Maybe only a watt or less is required.

    NRC fender eliminator

Connecting a 39 ohm 5 watt resistor across the 12V aux power will draw a continuous 3.7W and may keep the circuit live (if not, a 33 ohm 10W draws 4.7W). The next thing I'd do would be to make sure it doesn't keep the aux 12V live with the key off (definitely worth an extra 10 sec. with the...

    Alta Fast charger

A quick note about the fast charger case - there's a round air vent next to the handle center that opens CCW. When I first checked my charger out at HVMC it was impossible to open - I was about to ask for a small crowbar ! - but luckily I noticed this vent first (thought it was a lock or...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Here's some items that might help (or maybe not): :) a) Lead-acid batteries can be charged from an alternator; large lithium batteries should be charged with a CC/CV (constant-current / constant-voltage) unit that charges at a preset max current initially, transitioning to a preset voltage...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

The first stage of the charger after the AC line input is likely a rectifier feeding filter capacitors, so I imagine it will present a capacitive load to the inverter. This shouldn't be a problem if the inverter's power rating is maybe 10% or so higher than the charger's draw. Transformer...

    What is normal drivetrain sound?

I was surprised how many of them were available, at least for street bikes. I'd prefer a compact one with a sprocket wheel, but a channeled roller would also be fine. Something like this might work with a bit of tweaking:

    What is normal drivetrain sound?

I was a little surprised at the audible chain slap on my MXR, as the Zeros have none (concentric motor shaft / SA pivot, so chain slack can be set real low). If I can find a reasonably compact spring-loaded chain tensioner I may try one out, which might help with the chain slider issues as well.

    Mystery circulator?

A capacitor! Replaced dozens & seen many hundreds of 'em, never one quite like that though. Nothing even close on my Zero.

Fasst Company rear brake return spring on an Alta

Mine too - I got lucky & was able to fix it tonight. The problem on my bike turned out to be two things: the white toothpaste-like grease in the pivot (I could barely turn the center bushing with my fingers, there was so much friction), and the torsion-spring binding mentioned earlier. Once...

List of aftermarket products for the Alta

MotoMinded has the BRP chain guide, which looks pretty decent (replaceable liner). Hopefully it has a bit more chain clearance for larger sprockets, as the Alta OEM unit looks about tapped out at 53T.

Coolant Pump... not running with ignition on

If it still seems to have air in it later, maybe try laying the bike way over left & right with the pump running (might move the air bubble around enough to help).

Coolant Pump... not running with ignition on

No evidence of coolant leakage at all? I wonder if it might be an internal leak, with the coolant ending up inside something rather than on the ground.

    Inverters (12V to 120V - 240V) and Step-Up Transformers (120V to 240V)

That AIMS unit looks pretty impressive - maybe it could serve as a seat to put your boots on too. :) Seriously... does it have a CE or UL rating? If so, I'd consider it 100% trustworthy to output a solid 4kW, fwiw.

    Mystery circulator?

I've had my seat off several times for plastic work, and each time I noticed this large motor/pump looking component directly under the front seat area, where it begins to angle up. This thing is shown in the manual's page 79 (to the right of the meter) and page 80 (RH side of LH photo), but I...

    Replacing Alta plastic

Yeah... I think it may even change color on the shelf, or vary between manufacturers. My photo's in overcast natural light and the whites look very even, but in the garage different parts look slightly bluish / yellowish / even kinda pink in comparison to each other.

    Replacing Alta plastic

I just prefer shapes to patterns - always have. I've seen plenty of graphics that look cool to me, but I know if I put them on my bike, within a week I'll wish I hadn't. I do like most pinstriping though, probably because it tends to follow shape lines.
