A (240v) high output alternator on truck engine to charge the bike

I'd have to check the charger schematic to be certain, but if the alternator's DC voltage output was high enough it could probably be input to the CC/CV charging circuitry instead of the charger's built-in DC supply output. Just FWIW, I wouldn't recommend doing this. Ray

    Inverters (12V to 120V - 240V) and Step-Up Transformers (120V to 240V)

Right now the only inverter I own is a Sola 4kW online UPS (four 12V lead-acid batteries) for my computers, but I've owned several over the years & in my job I've worked on much larger ones (100kW) so the concept is familiar. A high-voltage, high-power inverter setup is one of the most...

A (240v) high output alternator on truck engine to charge the bike

I really hope it works out - just seems so ideal. Ray

A (240v) high output alternator on truck engine to charge the bike

After a quick read-over, it appears this setup should fully power either standard or fast Alta chargers (it's 5kW at 50Hz, so figure 4kW+ at the reduced duty cycle; it may be available in 60Hz too, idk). Yes, it's probably expensive, may be difficult to install, inverter unit bulky, etc. - but...

    Titling

My Zero has headlights (running lights only) and a speedo/dash unit, nothing else. I've ordered an EX headlight unit for the MXR (non-functional, just for show). I've only been to Thomaston with a street-plated ICE bike, the guy there was only interested in the plate (the dam is Army Corps of...

    Titling

AFAIK, CT still considers e-bikes scooters, and doesn't require registration. I've been pulled over twice and also talked to several curious cops, and haven't had any issues. As soon as the CT DMV thinks they're losing tax revenue, this will change. :( Here's some CT DMV info from dmv.org...

Coolant Pump... not running with ignition on

I'd say yes, definitely. Here's two excerpts from the Alta manual: Page 10, #1: Turn the key clockwise to the ON position... You may also hear the coolant pump power up and begin to circulate coolant through the frame. Page 75, #7: Turn the key to the ON position to activate the coolant pump...

This piece of machinery is SWEET - Redshift EX

These are the only rim locks I've ever had fail on me (plastic and metal sections separated, both front & rear). They come with really cool nuts and collars though, which I now use w/oversized Emgo locks on my Zero wheels. Maybe I just got some defective ones. Ray

    Drag Racing MX vs MXR

I wouldn't really need it either, but a desert racer, SM rider, dirt tracker, etc. very well might (along with Alta brochure writers). :) Ray

    Drag Racing MX vs MXR

Re the MXR hp increase, I think Alta may have done what Zero did - move the current-limiting threshold up slightly higher in the motor's rpm range, requiring the greater peak current of the R battery. During riding this would only be noticeable at WOT near top speed, but should definitely show...

    Replacing Alta plastic

Yeah, I was a little worried about mine being LocTited, but thankfully none were. Ray

    Replacing Alta plastic

Not sure if this should be posted here, but anyway... I just finished changing out most of my MXR's plastic with plain white. I used a Cycra front fender I got at HVM (I'd use Acerbis 2141810002 instead), Acerbis 2401265413 fork guards, and the rest is Alta OEM stuff. In the past I've replaced...

    Alta Fast charger

Yes it is, at least according to the nameplate data. I'd hoped for 14A / 1,700W at 120V, which would still be under the 15A limit of many 120V house circuits - but maybe they wanted to avoid having old and/or GFCI breakers trip out when running near max current. Ray

    Alta Fast charger

Here's some charger info I've pieced together using Alta web site info, @ VA calculations, and nameplate data (√) of the standard and fast chargers (I have both): Alta 3300 Fast Charger: 12A√ (120V, 1,400W), 16A√ (240V, 3,800W) 3.0 / 1.5 hrs...

    WP AER fork guards

I don't know - I have almost no knowledge of the AER fork or its component parts, which prompted this thread. I just need a pair of white MXR fork guards that I can get quickly and will definitely fit, which so far I've been unable to do. Any ideas? Ray

    Alta Fast charger

The fast charger works on both 120V and 240V. According to the nameplate info it doesn't charge any faster on 120V, which I found a bit disappointing. Ray

    WP AER fork guards

Does anyone know if aftermarket fork guards are available for the MXR AER forks? The only bike I know for sure uses this fork is the '18 KTM Factory Edition 450 (KTM p/n 77701094100EBE for the pair) which doesn't seem to have much aftermarket support yet. Ray

Putting a dollar amount on a charge

I'd say a couple/few bucks for a full Alta charge would be more than enough, but don't forget the 'goodwill factor' involved. Far better that the track owner sees providing power as a good (and possibly profitable) thing rather than just a financial-drain headache, often followed by no power at...

    Low coolant in new MXR

Cool ! ;) Yeah, I think the higher the coolant level the better, even if it means occasional overflow. If static conditions are a concern, imagine what's going on in there (circulation- and temp-wise) during actual riding. Ray
