    Rant: Motocross Action is Boring

+1 ! His book ('Monkey Butt!') is excellent, and he also has scans of the first four years of Dirt Bike magazine for sale (or used to).

Ty Tremaine and Lyndon Poskitt to race in the Erzberg Rodeo

Hey, I'd like to see that ! The trials guys would especially love it.

Ty Tremaine and Lyndon Poskitt to race in the Erzberg Rodeo

I've only watched one Erzberg Rodeo event, but in it I saw a number of riders lifting & carrying their bikes, for short distances obviously. There was also an absolute ton of pushing bikes up steep hills / through heavy brush / over obstacles etc. At most really bad spots there were lifters...

Ty Tremaine and Lyndon Poskitt to race in the Erzberg Rodeo

I really hope they do well ! This is one event where you absolutely do not want a heavy bike.

Warnings on dashboard on new MXR

Wow, really? With Zero you had to a) live in a right-to-repair state and b) practically take them to court, or so I've been told.

    Redshift in hard enduro

The Wheelie King's (Doug Domokos, R.I.P.) secret weapon: NG for EX, but definitely good for a few memories (love the stairs) Building a lightweight hillclimb bike with two of these might be fun (nothing like a heavy front wheel that earns its keep).

    Redshift in hard enduro

It'll be interesting to see electric 2WD evolve - if it's done right I imagine it'll eventually just dominate Endurocross, hillclimbing, etc. (as opposed to the clunky Christini system). I've seen so many instances in the rock / wood sections where the front wheel wedges itself down, 2WD would...

    2018 Alta MXR Shock Re-Spring and Re-Valve

Nowadays, absolutely - AFAIK Alta and Tacita are the only ones currently mass-producing electric MX bikes, which Zero hasn't made for years. From 2007-2013, the story was quite different; Zero was the sole worldwide producer of electric MX bikes, apart from a small number of Quantyas (by any...

    2018 Alta MXR Shock Re-Spring and Re-Valve

Every MX bike is marketed for motocross and racing, but few are actually used that way (and re actual competition, is there even an AMA electric class?). And even if Alta revised their OEM suspension to please some racers - the best that could be hoped for - an outdoor-MX type setup (which...

    2018 Alta MXR Shock Re-Spring and Re-Valve

I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if even 25% of Alta (or Big 5 MX-bike) owners mainly used their bikes on closed-circuit tracks. Maybe Alta figures the racing / big-air guys will set their bike up for that themselves, as they probably did for every other new bike they got. Ray

    Alta Fast charger

If the generator's 240V neutral is being used as the "safety ground" (yikes!) or the SG in the generator output is just a wire connected to the generator chassis, this is to be expected. Wikipedia: "A ground fault (earth fault) is any failure that allows unintended connection of power circuit...

    Clicking sound when Idle

I didn't think of that at all - maybe it's gear click, each time the magnets pull on the stator ? Ray

    Clicking sound when Idle

Same here, Oded - I think it might be several things: 1) the Alta motor spins nearly 3X as fast as a stock Zero FX motor per unit distance 2) the 14K rpm Alta motor is surely made to tighter specs than the 6K Zero motor, so the magnets may be closer to the stator 3) the magnets may also be more...

Warnings on dashboard on new MXR

Just a guess, but maybe there's a 9V backup battery for the display and/or controller, like a computer's BIOS battery? Ray

    Inverters (12V to 120V - 240V) and Step-Up Transformers (120V to 240V)

Agreed - just metal & insulation ! Designing & building a safe, reliable, cool-running, reasonably-priced 5kW unit is not simple though, which is why quality ones cost so much. Me neither - they scare me because of all the Chinese-made power supplies I've opened up to find glop-coated...

    Inverters (12V to 120V - 240V) and Step-Up Transformers (120V to 240V)

I understand completely. I've looked for 120V/240V brand-name enclosed 5kVA step-up transformers, but all I find online are either cheap eBay 'voltage converter' black boxes that I'd never recommend unless I'd bought, thoroughly checked out, & used one hard for a while, or $$ commercial-grade...

    Inverters (12V to 120V - 240V) and Step-Up Transformers (120V to 240V)

Yes - but Onans are pretty high-end generators, are you sure there's no 240V tap on the output connection terminal strip? You might get lucky and only have to change a jumper or two, and maybe the charger plug. Ray
