I’m wanting to convert a 450cc dirtbike to a street legal electric supermoto. what frame would be best and what’s the largest 96v battery i can fit? which qs138 is best suited?

Some 450s have specific supermoto frames, for example TMs and old Italian Husqvarnas. TMs have been pretty successful in recent years in supermoto racing and usually those riders who use CRFs etc. for supermoto prefer the TMs when they try them.
Probably the engine played a role in the characteristics of those frames and I don't know how well an electric motor and a battery would fit. One thing to consider with TMs is that many of their 4 strokes have the fuel tank in the subframe under the seat and surely this affects the suitability for a conversion. Another thing to consider is that they use KYB AOSs for the forks and they make their own rear shocks; I've tried a 2021 300 enduro in an enduro track and their rear shock felt right to me.
Here you can have a look.

I can only speak for CRF Frames
inside a Honda CRF 450 Frame you can maximum fit a Battery containing 286 Cells plus BMS etc. enclosed in a Metal Casing.
This will result in a 26S11P Battery 96v and 49,5AH (calculated with Molicel P45B cells) or 96V and 55AH (with Molicel P50B cells)
Thats the Max you get with a typical custom made amorge battery in a stainless steel case.
And it would be even swappable in a few min by taking off the Seat, Tank and the radiator shrouds.

these are the size specs of the battery:

Thats what it looks inside the Frame:

( if I where to order another Battery I would let Amorge make the Battery Cables come out of the front not the top of the battery as space is quiet narrow underneath tank and above battery)

above battery fits on top of a QS138 70H V3 Motor.
it will not fit on top of the 90H motor this sits way higher and gives then less space for battery.

If you are able to build the battery yourself sky is the limit xD and you can fill the whole frame up with cells but anything bigger than above means its a permanent fixed battery that you cannot pull out of the frame anymore without taking apart the whole bike.
Also to consider the Battery above has nearly the same weight as the combustion engine that I pulled out so the general weight balance etc stays close to what it was originally and what the bike was desinged for.

There are plug and play E-kits for recent model year Yamaha 450´s the Yamaha frame has also great space for batterys.
But yeah if you do it yourself you might be able to do it at half the cost of those kits. But this requires some commitment to research, learn, and DIY capabilities.

thanks! i’d be riding street and stunt lots.. still uncertain if a yz85 would be better for stunting and wheelies. what range do you get
