The main reason a lot of us do 72V is because the convenience of the parts. More controller options in 72V, like Votol. They do not have a 96V EM260S. There are Aliexpress stores that sell them, but I emailed Harry at QSMotors.com and they say there are no 96V EM260S controllers. Batteries are more available, most motors can run 96V, but really a 96V rated controller has to be good to 120V approx. The important parts in the controller are the Capacitors and Mosfets. They are voltage rated.
But I started 48V and went 72V about 5 years ago. Almost all my stuff uses the same chargers. Even my MX500 is 72V. I am now building a street bike , a KTM Duke 790, and putting in a QS138 90H V3 motor with a FarDriver controller, ND961200, and of course a 96V (nominal) battery.
Higher voltage is better for many reasons, but higher voltages, like the Stark and KTM Freeride run 300+ Volts get to be dangerous!!!!
I prefer the Votol Controllers, because I can work with them, but you are limited to 72V nominal. I wanted to put the 96V Votol EM260S on the Duke, but I wanted a reliable controller. That is why I contacted QS Motors. The sites that sold the EM260S 96V model had vague info. They would not state the Max voltage, that should be over 110V. I must now learn the FarDriver software.

That is confusing about the 96v EM260. Thanks for the reply Don. I contacted Russell at siaecosys/cnqsmotor.com in late Feb. He gave me a different response.

Finding the correct vendor for these motors and controllers was VERY confusing and difficult for me at first. There are multiple web sites with 'siaecosys' and 'qsmotor' in their name with varying spellings and such. I selected cnqsmotor.com as they had a presence on Endless Sphere DIY EV Forum and there was a lot of good feedback about them there.

EDIT: Don has been doing this way longer than I have so his contacts are more likely to be accurate. If it seems like I was implying Don had the wrong vendor I was not.

I will follow up with him again as it will impact my next build if I can't use the same or a similar Votol controller at 96v.

Interesting, that makes sense. 96v does seem like the way to go if you can source the parts. As this will likely be a project I start in a few months, maybe there will be better availability by then!

so I can call this Build finally "Complete" as I am not currently thinking about changing anything.


off to the next project :LOL: but thats off topic as I have to turn this little trailer into my toy hauler

time is rar so the most common times I can go to ride is like a wednesday after work when I leave an hour earlier.
So I cannot afford loosing time with loading everything up.
This Trailer should be ready packed with all I need ready to go for a ride just hook it on and go to the track.

Should be able to house 2 bikes as I am gabmling with the idea on getting a 2smoker next season (probaply KTM SX 150 or 250)
Bikes will be secured with Moto Cinch System on L Tracks.
Rest of the Space will be filled with an Aluminim Profile 40x40 Nut 8 rack with a few boxes to hold all the miscellaneous items you always need on hand.
Additionally
-Holder for the Ramp
-12v battery and charger (maybe solar) to power LED´s, Coolbox, compressor.

Consider the peg-grabbing mounts. A couple of my peeps around here have them and they're quite quick and reliable. In a trailer you won't even need extra straps, I think.
hehe I just Test fitted them over the Pegs the L-Tracks are about to be delivered today
So Currently they are not hooked to the Trailer, thats why the orange straps are still on ;)

Russell@siaecosys.com says the range is 36-115v for this controller. I think the thing to do is order one and put it to work and see if it performs reliably. Unfortunately, for me, that will have to wait until I get this current build done.

This is my first rodeo doing this type of stuff so most of what I know is because of people like Don who came before me. But, best I can tell siaecosys (cnqsmotor.com) is one of the more reputable vendors.

Lots of people and evidence out there that the 72v EM260 works and works pretty well. Since I have never found anyone using this supposed 96v version first hand, Don is probably right to be hesitant.

I am building the 2023 Duke 790 bike with a FarDriver. 96V controller. When I finish, maybe I will get one of the Votol EM260S 96V models and try it. I should start on the battery soon for this bike.
I have been very happy with the 72V Votol controllers.

Mounting for the Battery I am playing with the idea of doing it out of 8-10mm Carbon sheets cut to size with large bolts going across to the other side with spacers in between.
Saw it on a bike that a company here in Germany (https://www.zweiradsport-brunner.de/) build for a customer: (its a CRF450 2021+ model)

they used a 55ah 72v Battery (I sadly have no more detials on the battery than that)

if anyone wants to see more of that bike beeing build here is a Vlog of the build thats shows at least some details (but its of cause all in german) :



they placed the EBMX controller in the very front of the Frame which I absolutely don´t want as I have seen so many big Rocks knocking on the front fo my eninge in the past.

Hey Guys,

We are building a CRF450 using a QS138 V3 and an X-9000 controller. This is my first X-9000 build so I'd like to do it right. We think we have everything wired correctly. I have a couple of questions:
1. Do we connect the single red wire to the positive lead on the controller?
2. Where do we connect the two wires exiting the on/off button?
3. Do we leave the large connector with the red stripe unconnected?
4.Where can I find the wiring diagram for my X-9000?

Easy

Single red wire (with the cable shoe on it) goes to battery positive

Then to one of the two cables from your on/off switch (doesn’t matter which one)

The now last free cable from your on off switch goes to the other red cable that goes to the controller

So let’s say the red cable tells the controller to switch on.
If you would not put the on/off switch in between and connect the whole red wire directly to battery plus the controller would be always on ;)

Sadly there is no wiring diagram I know of for the qs138 harness
