Display Guard - Protect it from crashes!

Had no idea you were planning a behind the bar style. Fantastic! Looking forward to pics of both options.

    New place for display

Same applies to roadracers. Only thing I've broken is a collarbone. It didn't break all the way through so they didn't plate it.

Will the Alta battery prove itself like the Tesla?

Things that damage Li-Ion batteries: Heat (that's why consumer electronic batteries die so quickly) Once the battery hits 40C it starts degrading. Good thermal control is critical to long life. Time spent at 100% charge or 0% charge (accelerates calendar degradation - best to store at 50%)...

Go Fund Me Campaign? to force ALTA into an Involuntary Bankruptcy

Not to mention, I doubt that the bankruptcy court would simply open-source all the IP when that certainly has some value to someone. I believe they are required to get as much $$ as they can to satisfy creditors. Giving stuff away doesn't jive with that. Perhaps those with outstanding...

EV West has a Redshift... and a ****load of Alta batteries

This company is active on TMC but do not have any first-hand experience: Gruber Power | UPS Equipment, Batteries, & Service

    BAD NEWS

Makes sense to sell anything of value to keep the company alive as they try to sell it. Can always order more batteries.

    Broken display - solution?

Thanks for doing this! I'm on the fence as to get one of these or move it behind the bars (I'm not using a steering damper). But your solution would give a lot more protection than stock without me having to fab something.

    BAD NEWS

Being dirtbikes, I think crashes are more of a concern than battery degradation. If kept from overheating and not overcharged/overdischarged Li-Ions can last thousands of cycles.

How long does it take to balance the pack?

Either way is fine. As long as you let the bike balance every few charge cycles you will maximize battery life. So do it whichever way is more fun :)

Withdrawn Wanted, Rear hand brake for 2019 exr.

Hi there. If you read this thread: The Alta Factory LHRB they talk about the part numbers needed to order the parts yourself.

How long does it take to balance the pack?

Charging slower does generate less heat but it's charging for a longer time (thereby generating heat for a longer time) so it's a bit of a wash. Since our batteries have active cooling and the ability to slow charging if temps get too high I would just charge and trust that Alta set the...

Our own Alta software/firmware team -- Join in

This is the opposite direction all the EV manufacturers are going. Everyone is moving towards 800V systems. I don't think anyone here would be happy to lose peak power and range (I say that even though I'm still in map 1). As for @Mark911 idea to buy a bike to dissect, my preference would be...

Our own Alta software/firmware team -- Join in

I think the question was in relation to replacing the dash. It's our understanding that the dash has to be initialized with the laptop if it's replaced. If we end up having to salvage wrecked units we'll need a way to do that.

    BAD NEWS

I don't think so but dealers have them. Although it's possible they are only "leased" and may need to be returned.

POLL - Would you keep your Redshift...

And like all things Italian, it is amazing when it's running. At 4,300 miles (granted all track miles) the cam chain broke due to a poorly made tensioner. Taking an engine from 9k rpm to 0 in a fraction of a second does "very bad things". Took 2 years and $12k to get it back on the track. I...

Any way to eliminate the key?

This confused me as on my bike once you drop the kickstand it kills the throttle. Then I realized you were talking about MX(R)'s :)

POLL - Would you keep your Redshift...

In that case I'd clean it up and turn it into art somewhere. I have the same plan for my Benelli 900LE.

    Accessories available at MotoMinded

Back in 2008 Tesla tried to put a transmission in the Roadster. They claimed they were unable to find a unit that could handle the torque so the prototypes were locked into second gear. They eventually sourced a reduction gearset from Borg Warner and have stuck with that model ever since...

2019 EXR Ride Pics (Central Nevada)

You are correct in that the motor is more efficient at higher revs (I believe ~6,800 for this motor). However in my opinion the difference will not be noticeable. Wheel-spin (and high speeds which don't apply based on what you wrote) is the single greatest killer of range. If you go down a...
