    Dumbfounded Alta is no more

No different than the general public on EVs, but they are coming around. It is inevitable that we will transition away from petroleum for general transportation, the only question is when or how soon.

24 Hours of Starvation Ridge in WA -- October 26 & 27, 2019 (new dates)

After watching the conversation on the Northeast 24 Hour Challenge, thought I would try are revive this thread to see if we can get a 6 person Alta team together for 2019. @Redwolf has expressed an interest and I am in. Don't know the exact date yet but last year it was at the end of October...

grinding from gears and slipping / cold weather

Can you tell which side of the bike the grinding is coming from? I would try and differentiate between the chain sprocket on the left side of the bike and the reduction gear box on the right. No idea why it would be speed dependent. Might want to put the bike in the garage overnight to warm...

    2019 NE 24hr Challenge July 20th & 21st 2019, Team AltaOwnersForum.com is Official!

Awesome, I would like to get an Alta team for the Starvation Ridge 24 hour race in SE Washington next Oct. Would love to be part of your team, but the 2000 mile, one way commute, is a little fart for me. Hopefully I can take what your learn, and contribute to the list for this event, and apply...

Here is the google sheet I started, but when I asked about it one of the moderators didn't see the need. Anyone with the link can edit it and I added a column for who will bring what. Google sheets are a pretty dynamic collaboration spreadsheet in that anyone with the link can edit the sheet...

Charger issue, 2017 Alta Redshit MX - help!

With voltage on both sides of the fuse, it is good. Does the charger charge to 75% (i.e. if the bike is at 50% will it charge to 75% and stop) or will it not charge at all? Connect to AC please is normally a function of the GFCI which is the yellow box in the power cable. There are two...

Charger issue, 2017 Alta Redshit MX - help!

I have circled the fuse. If you have an ohm meter you can check for continuity between the two silver caps.

Display Guard - Protect it from crashes!

Agreed, it only protects those with working displays and doesn't solve the problem for those with existing broken displays. Once you figure out the message traffic for the display probably not a big jump to make it interactive to respond to the bike requests.

Display Guard - Protect it from crashes!

I believe this to be true. The bike sends a command to the display and expects a response. Until the bike receives the requested response it will not operate. If the display is broken, the bike never receives a response, so the bike is effectively dead. If we move the factory display, the...

Display Guard - Protect it from crashes!

Given the problems with replacing a factory Alta display, my vote would be a slave display that just displays data. If we had that we could move the interactive (existing) display to somewhere safe. That way if I break the slave display it is easy to replace without the need to...

Display Guard - Protect it from crashes!

Yes, from my understanding, which is limited, the CAN message is basically an address, or message ID, and the data. The address identify what the data is, in this case SOC and the data gives the value. You would need a device that looked for the address, then decoded and then displayed the...

Display Guard - Protect it from crashes!

You could mount the display somewhere safe and then use a phone GPS for distance, speed and time. It wouldn't give you SOC info, but could probably figure that out accurately enough from time, distance and how hard you have been riding. I have a phone mounted on my DRZ that I only use as a GPS...
