    Inverter Throttle Fault

I'm sure the Feds will soon be looking much closer at electric vehicles and be placing requirements similar to OBD2 for reasons not related to emissions. Now that Alta is selling street legal bikes they'll be required to comply. It's just a matter of time.

    Inverter Throttle Fault

The day I can't ride because I need to take my bike to a dealer for a mandatory "reflash" is the day it's going on Craigslist, I don't care what brand it is. In this day and age that's simply unacceptable when 95% of the electronics sold are wifi/USB enabled. Now, if the disposition of the...

    Inverter Throttle Fault

The root problems are typically discovered pretty quick, it's the implementation of the fix that usually holds things up. Obviously, Alta doesn't want us owners changing parts inside the throttle. That means new throttles (assuming that's the problem). Alta now gets to fight it out with...

    Inverter Throttle Fault

I'd rather waive the warranty on a silly motorcycle than waive my life because my motor shut down at the wrong time! Frankly, I think Alta has a massive lawsuit just waiting to happen.

    Inverter Throttle Fault

I keep telling myself I'll get to the track as soon as it dips below 90 for a day. I never remember it being this hot in July, 95F was considered scorching up to about 4 years ago. Now 95+ is typical with triple digits being common. WTH?

    Inverter Throttle Fault

Phil, another way would be to simply remove the spring and replace it with something solid. Then you could revert back. There's a third screw that holds the throttle to the bars, it's pretty tiny. Once off the bars you could drill the heads off the two "non-tamper" screws and simply replace...

    Inverter Throttle Fault

Based on the pictures posted of the throttle assembly I'd try squeezing epoxy between the coils of the rollback spring, basically making it solid and preventing the throttle from going past the closed position (more closed?). Obviously, the "overclosed" position is causing the throttle position...

    The Alta Factory LHRB

My 3D printer source is having technical difficulties with his printer. I'm on hold. Wouldn't want to risk spending machine time without verifying the part first.

    Battery Energy State Hysteresis

Both the state of charge and the range to go (I not sure which is shown on the Alta) is not much different than the fuel gauge and the calculated "miles to go" shown on most modern cars. They're both based on various direct and indirect measurements and in the case of range has many additional...

Bad news for aftermarket? The battery management tech.

Me too! I looked at the bottom printed circuit board (PCB) and speculated everything else. Quite a stretch. By "hardwired" I mean the individual 18650 cells were literally connected "plus to minus" in series using spot welded solid wire. At the same time the + to - solid wires were also...

Bad news for aftermarket? The battery management tech.

I carefully borescoped my pack through the pressure vent. Then it was simple deduction after studying the bottom module PCB. The bottom module (and I assume all the others) has qty126, 18650 style cells. 96 of the cells are "hardwired" into groups of 6 parallel cells 16 strings (series)...

Bad news for aftermarket? The battery management tech.

My guess is that Alta has engineered an electronically variable battery configuration and integrated it as one of the main variables within the motor control system (throttle, maps, etc). The ability to instantly reconfigure about 20% of the cells within the battery from series to parallel or...

MXR --Max power limited warning anyone else?

Spraying water, icepacks and fans seems so "low tech" for the Alta. The heat path from the cells to the pack housing (radiator) is only as good as the thermal conductivity of the material Alta uses to secure the cells in their honeycomb nesting arrangement. Unfortunately, thermal conductivity...

MXR --Max power limited warning anyone else?

Not uncommon and everyone will experience it differently depending on the operating conditions. It's particularly common when the battery is below 20% charged as voltage droop causes more current to be needed for the same power. Current creates heat in the battery cells, inverter and motor...

    MXR fixes/mods

Go with a LHRB setup. I've gotten so well accustomed to mine I can't ride a normal bike anymore as I never use the rear pedal and can't stop! On the other hand, I guess it's better to stick with the stock setup if you plan to "switch hit" between bikes.

    Best Alta Generator

The B&S Q6500 is working fine. In my mind it's the best alternative to the $4k plus Yamaha and Honda 240 inverters. It was NOT as quiet as advertised. In fact, I was quite displeased and ready to return it as it wasn't much better than my $400 commercial unit. However, being fully enclosed...

Three Alta at the track today

It was a good day for sure. Looking forward to Gorman. I agree, always lots of questions and interest. Like you two, I've always made my bike available to just about anyone wanted to try it out but it got to the point where everyone but me was riding it! Alta should provide a demo bike to...

    Mystery circulator?

Very close. My guess would be a large power capacitor for the inverter. Pretty common.

    Display issues?

Mine does that quite often. I really notice it after/during charging when the garage is dark as it can be quite dim sometimes. I just ignore it.

    Fod airing it out

Great, I'll be there. Might be a bit warm . . . . You guys must be up around Magic Mtn? When I lived in the south bay I rode Piru and Gorman quite a bit but haven't been there since 98 when I blew my tibia plateau into a million pieces at an OTHG race. I'm in Corona now so local tracks...
