Why do the 2017 MX's get overlooked?

The change from 6061 to 7075 was a long term change. (Had to use up old parts). Hence why newer models had the 7075. The brake guard was due to people getting there pant leg caught on the boot guard. The easiest way to fix that is to get a rubber mallet and hit that bracket (we made a fixture...

    6.6kw elcon charger

So the Elcon should work from the configuration of the voltage HK-J-H440-20 would be the correct one for the Alta pack. Specifically...the DCCP might not like the signal from the 6.6 since it was configured for the 3.3kw.

    6.6kw elcon charger

I do not recall, but what I do know is who you have linked is the distributor for Elcon (Electric Conversions) and Elcons are TC chargers from China. I believe Alta went to the direct supplier of that charger. Could try to use a 6.6kw as long as you get the right CAN Baud rate setup by...

Easy-to-follow battery charging protocol for weekend riding

As an active user of my SM and occasional use of my MX/EX I have my batteries at 95% - 100% SOC. Right now both bikes are at that range. I have a few times this year due to SIP have not ridden my Altas for weeks and firing them back up with no issues or faults. Ive done plenty of "long distance"...

    Displays button functions (POLL)

Yep! Its a direct replacement. Before Alta was going under, we were creating a newer "V2" display. The display was to be built in house, but did not fully materialize. People with busted displays, or want a spare (missed out on the group buy). To @snydes point, parts exist for the V2 display...

    Displays button functions (POLL)

Unfortunately, they cannot be used since it requires firmware modification. But if the "bypass" works, in technical terms a way to make a new display is possible, but with the messages that already exist on the CAN bus.

    Displays button functions (POLL)

Its not due to lack of a replacement, its the requirement of having a display. One of the "features" the software team did at Alta was to require a display when turning on the bike (part of the entire CANbus of the vehicle). On going development is happening to create a "bypass" Right now in...

How-To : Install and Use Alta Multitool Software

@effinsiok based on those revisions, your bike is pretty vintage. I would recommend individually targeting the specfic files for the ACM, DCCP and Inverter. The BRD BCU should upload cleanly after. Also that "Update Firmware" button is driven by your VIN. Which never existed when that bike was...

    A pack vs R pack

How-To : Install and Use Alta Multitool Software

If you see no flags in MT = your good. Is this the bike with the Code 36? Or a different vehicle? (Usually with MT I leave the dongle plugged into the USB port) .

Hmmm seems to be broken record forsure. In MFG we used torque wrenches. Beyond that you can use any tightening device. If you "snug" the plastics that should not lead to over torqueing. FYI not once did I blame users. This issue gets consistently brought up and ends up leading to the same root...

The only time I personally have had a insert spin in on me is....over torque. Ham fisting the dang fastener into the plastic. Luckily plastic pieces are available..which means replacements isnt end of the world.

How many miles/hours do you have on your ALTA

@TeslaRaptor what is the last three digits of your bikes (End of the VIN number)

How many miles/hours do you have on your ALTA

Because the population of MXR Batteries with the Code 36 was not really pin pointed, hard to really say where it is at. The algorithm which exists for picking up the Code 36 is really sensitive. If your bike has been sitting and has not really gone through a charge discharge cycle, could be a...

    Top Fairing screws

No offense taken at all. I posed the question because I rarely hear or see of other plastics getting wrecked/destroyed. My Vstrom 650 uses button head fasteners with indicated torque values in service manual/VStrom forums. When I left Zero and went to Alta, the same thought was in my mind when...

    Gear Oil Level

100ml was the original quantity added to the bikes in production, that actually increased to 130ml. As long as your in that range that should be adequate.

    Gear Oil Level

In most cases, the oil rarely gets drained. I did my oil about 500 miles ago on my SM and it had never been changed and was similarly sludgy. If the oil level is clear and in the sight glass, there is no harm of running 120ml. Might be a tad less whiny but nothing damaging.

    Gear Oil Level

Had the oil been changed before? If it hadn't your probably gonna get some sludge/particulate which may affect the output. As long as you see oil in the midway point of the sight glass you should be fine. Usually the service also includes removing the gear cover w/gasket and that evacuates some...

If I recall, the Euro bolt hardware has some properties to help with corrosion...I could be off since that may have been specific for the fork bolts. I have ranted about the excessive usage of lockpatch (Loctite patch on the Alta hardware per Bossard specifications) and Anti-seize was never...
