    Tesla Powerwall

I have an update. NO TESLA POWERWALL FOR ME. On Sunday I sent $500 to Tesla to reserve a Powerwall. It was fully refundable, so why not? I hoped some technically knowledgeable person from Tesla would call me on Monday and talk me into into installing their product in my van. That never...

    Feedback on DC-area dealers?

I think it might be too early to tell about the DC area dealers. Most of the East Coast became dealers less than half a year ago, and they probably didn't sell too many Altas yet, and even fewer of those Altas (if any) had problems that required dealer's attention. I wouldn't say that having a...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

It will be connected to the van's stock battery. No need for several large deep cycle batteries if the alternators are powerful enough to keep the stock battery from discharging under load.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Nations Starter & Alternator tech guru Adam said that connecting two similar DC alternators in parallel is straightforward and does not require any additional hardware. So, I think I may have a new and improved recipe: RECIPE #2 1) Upgrade the stock alternator: 270 Amp High Output Alternator...

    Mammoth MX Race Report

Awesome!!! Thank you for the race report, Fog! If it continues to go like this, I will need to make a forum category for race reports, along with holeshot photo galleries!

    interesting tactic to reduce drag..

Once the chain stretches a little though, this rear sprocket will get destroyed.

An Open Petition to Alta to let us create our own maps (and to modify Map 3)

Of course it should come from a budding manufacturer. With established manufacturers allowing all kinds of re-maps, it only makes sense if a budding manufacturer with its more nimble engineering team and less red tape would at least allow some of that, if not more.

    Coolant pump

I tried spraying the battery with a mist sprayer. I think it helped, but I cannot quantify it.

    Fast charger purchase

Yep, AFAIK only the R-battery can take 16A at 240V. The A-battery is limited to 12A. So even if the Rapid charger works with the MX, which it probably does, it will probably be only supplying 12A, in which case there is no benefit to owning it.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Google says: If you have two alternators then you should be using two chargers/controllers or onecharger/controller that has two inputs to charge the batteries.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Well, I reached out to the guy who came up with this van inverter recipe, and he said that only one of his dual generators charges the deep cycle batteries and powers the Alta charger. He said this is how the installer recommended. Can't the two generators be connected in parallel?? They are DC...

    At the Tipping Point

If you value your time, and if your rides are short like you are describing, definitely get an EX over a WR250R. Also, riding with others is so much more fun on an electric. I bet your kids will be bugging you to borrow and ride your bike. The bike is just a pleasure to own and ride around.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Yep. Sounds like bringing a spare charged battery with you is a very attractive option, considering the alternatives. Wish it came with a couple of factory mechanics though to help me swap it.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Yeah, I remember that. Even with a low idle my van still consumes a lot of gas and produces a lot of heat, which makes standing right outside of it uncomfortable on a hot sunny day. Often a worse kind of uncomfortable than standing near a loud generator.

    Tesla Powerwall

Yeah, that's what I though too. So, ideally, I should figure out a way to charge the Alta from a Tesla Model S/X and then convert that Tesla into a movo van! Oh, I forgot, I might then have to tow that Tesla home if I have too much fun at the track on my Alta.
