This is my today's project. Got myself some welder's tan. Welded a battery tray for my four Battleborn 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries, plus a spare room for a fifth battery, if I ever decide to buy one more.
Also, welded a tray for the 20ga fresh water tank. This is to pressure wash the bikes and to...
The van is a 2014 Ram ProMaster 2500 Window Van with a 159" wheelbase.
I like windows all around. They make it easier to back up, park, and change lanes in traffic as if I am in a car.
I installed a 5% limo tint on all the rear windows. Works great.
Floor: Three 6x4' 3/4" thick rubber mats...
That's the exact model with Bluetooth that I will use with in my van with Lithium batteries. However, I won't be able to use it with the generator. It is rated only up to 70V.
I guess, one can always split the two charger's wires apart and use a clamp style multimeter like this:
Meterk...
I thought I should create a thread to document my van build. Maybe it would help others. Or maybe others will help me. It will definitely create more accountability for me to continue working on it and eventually finish it.
I will be posting progress pictures and maybe will make a video some...
What kind of riding will you be doing?
If you want to be riding for the sake or riding, then go with an Alta.
I have never owned or considered a Zero, but from what I have read, if you are buying an electric motorcycle for commuting or sightseeing, then a Zero should work better for you.
Does anyone know of an inexpensive Kill-A-Watt or similar power and amp meter rated at 240V and 20A? It would be nice to tell if the charger is pulling the full expected current from the generator, in case your generator does not have a built-in amp meter, which mine doesn't.
My van though...
Yes, if the battery is hot, it won't start charging until it cools off a little. I have experienced that.
Perhaps there is also an intermediate setting, where it would charge slower, if it is too warm. Can anyone confirm this?
Yes, I was thinking about asking one of the motorcycle luggage companies to make a soft bag that fits in that space. There are no such companies near me though, and they will need to measure a motorcycle to make it.
Someone who lives nearby should contact these motorcycle luggage...
Awesome! Congrats with a win!
That's some fast track with long jumps! I was at Pala last December, and I do not remember these sections, is this the Vets track?
Here, I found a 12V volt to 48 volt DC/DC battery charger for lead acid and lithium batteries. The price is $1,275.
I think I have made the right choice to stay with 12V. The only drawback so far has been the 4/0 AWG wires between the batteries and the inverter.
Maybe the generator is not powerful enough today? The charger would shut off if the generator is overloaded.
You need 240V x 16A = 3,840W running power. Your 3,200W generator is probably rated at 2,800W running, or less.
Nice! It is 48V, right?
Are there some inexpensive 12-48 DC-DC chargers on the market that I could use to charge it from the truck's alternator, if I have to?
I am running Dunlop MX12 in 110x19. It is an all-around tire for the sand and soft dirt tracks around here. I installed a smaller sprocket and effectively made the chain two links longer than stock so that I could run the rear tire 5/8" farther back and not rub the "airbox" as much.
