the suspension is Fastace. same brand as the Zero's 2104 models (before upgrading to Showa on 2015 and later models). Fastace are used mainly on youth bikes, and are not comparable to Showa, Kayaba & WP, but perhaps they are twicked differently.

I would get a 2nd hand cheap laptop and devote it to Linux and Multitool. That is what I did. SM maps require only the inverter fw to be uploaded. I think it Should work on R bikes as well, but I am not sure.

Not strictly related, but how do I charge a module (one of the four) to bring its voltage back up, so the Alta charger can identify it & start charging and balancing the pack? Any 70v lipo charger can be used? Talking about a bike that went into deep discharge, that the charger will not start...

i would make the effort, and get a Technician multitool laptop (sooner or later, you'll need it). there is a speicific thread about it - How-To : Install and Use Alta Multitool Software it makes uploading SM maps super easy.

I had a Zero FX for 3 years and used it for dirt riding only. The 5.8 battery version last about the same as the Redshift's battery. The newer FX have larger capacity batteries. 4-5 hours of trail riding is unrealistic IMO. Slow technical enduro may last that long. Chain conversion is a must...

You need to upload the SM inverter fw via multitool. The software is included in the multitool firmware package.

Do you guys use the SM firmware? There is very pronounced differences between the 4 maps in the SM firmware. The mx/r ex/r maps are not that different from one another. I highly recommend using the SM maps (I use it for my EX as well).

As for front tire - I love the Shinko 216 fatty on my EX. These fat tires can handle everything. This tire, however, does have a tendancy to throw its outer knobs. Be adviced.

The Michelin Starcross medium is considered an excellent all rounder, and may work well for your type of terrain. I personnaly found it too stiff for rocks. I now use the Kenda 779 Gauntlet enduro. It's real gummy and wide at 140/80. Incredible grip on all types of terrain, but probably won't...
