    Registration in Wisconsin

Baraboo is rural. They sent me to Madison. AZ is much like Oregon in that you can declare the bike has all the proper equipment on it and they will issue a plate. It’s your problem if you get ticketed for driving a non compliant vehicle. This is an entirely different situation. The bike came...

    Registration in Wisconsin

Thanks Frank. I hope it doesn’t come down to that. Here’s the rub, it already is legal and has the federal compliance certificate on the frame. It’s a clerical error on a website and up to this point the WI DMV hasn’t been willing to look beyond the NHTSA website. I’m positive this can get...

    Registration in Wisconsin

Has anyone successfully titled and registered an Alta EXR in the state of Wisconsin? If so, what were the hoops you had to jump through? WI won’t register my Alta because it’s classified as a off-highway vehicle on NHTSA website. It was originally titled and registered in AZ. The dealership...

    RXR NHTSA decal?

Alta shuttered the doors a month after I bought it. I’m suspecting something was pending with respect to certification that didn’t get completed. It’s odd that AZ didn’t bring it up, but it was a dealer that submitted the paperwork when I bought it. Also odd that people in Georgia have similar...

    RXR NHTSA decal?

I bought and registered my Alta EXR in Arizona in 2018. I moved to Wisconsin this October and they won’t register it because “ 2019 ALTA VIN #…000114 We received your title and Wisconsin Title and License Plate Application for the above vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic...

1000 Miles On The EXR Today

Nice bike and great write up! I might investigate that light bar. I lived in Houston in the 60’s & 70’s. When I started racing enduro in the mid 70’s, it was with with a club called Trail Riders of Houston (TRH). It appears they still exist. I lived about 5 miles from Rio Bravo motocross track...

What type of coolant and gear oil do you use?

Yes, initially expensive, but not so bad if you recover & reuse. And initially you need to make sure you drain and prep the coolant system if not a brand new build or rebuild. Can’t have much residual water.

What type of coolant and gear oil do you use?

I guess to answer your original question, pretty much any engine coolant designed for aluminum components should work. What I don’t like about coolant in general is the corrosive issues when the anti corrosion additives break down. I had a 1986 Honda CR250R that had a magnesium water pump...

What type of coolant and gear oil do you use?

Evans seems ideal for an Alta application. Heat load isn’t a problem.

What type of coolant and gear oil do you use?

For something that’s supposed to be maintenance free, I was considering a waterless lifetime product like Evans waterless coolant.

    Post your Miles/Hours

2019 EXR, VIN 114, 1208 miles, 57 hours. Lost a front sprocket bolt. Always use loctite! :-)

    Altering firmware

I also have two wheel sets. I’d love to be able to input sprocket combinations so mileage & speed are reasonably correct for any given sprocket combo. Right now mileage and speed is 20% low. And I’d like to do that from a menu on the display.

How-To : Install and Use Alta Multitool Software

I couldn’t leave the HP Pavilion alone. It’s been a slowpoke since I bought it several years ago, lived with it since it was “adequate”, but eventually too many Windows upgrades made it unbearable. So it seemed a good candidate as a garage laptop for redshift_multitool. As I originally reported...

    Theoretical top speed

Any links to stats or video on that? I assume it would have to be on par or better than any 125 shifter or TAG kart.

    Theoretical top speed

I agree, at least 100. My EXR has no problems hitting 88 in a short distance. I bet the little Grom chassis has a lower drag coefficient, and it’s direct drive (right?) eliminating the extra drag of the gearbox. I’d like to see the Alta motor in a go kart. Pretty sure it would rock.

    Ahh, that explains it. Thanks.

    Theoretical top speed

Ok, so reading through the responses, if I connect multitool it will download the most recent log file from yesterday’s ride first. I just wanted to confirm the motor tops out @ 13 or 14k RPM. The speed calculator spreadsheet matches 13k RPM too close to be a coincidence, but I thought the motor...
