BAD NEWS

I hope we get an option to buy electrical components somewhere, somehow. Best bike I've ever owned and it doesn't bother the neighbors. Built a track. Now this shit happens. I'd be okay if I can get 500 plus hours out of it. Then hang it in my garage for decoration.

Guess I'm not so optimistic now.
Stay positive, as owners we have a lot to be happy about still.

1. We have a great bike to ride.
2. Should last a long time.
3. If it does break most of the components should be pretty easy to fix. Electric motors have been around for over 100 years and last thousands of hours, frame is aluminum, levers, rims, hubs, suspension are all used on other bikes. The only real risk is electronics and it should last if we can keep from breaking the display.
4. If we break the electronics, previous Alta employees may be able to help us fix the bike.

All in all, I hope Alta survives and prospers, but if they don't, I think we will be OK.

I too hope Alta survives, the whatever new models might be in the design pipeline would surely be epic. But for now, my biggest concern is the lifespan of the battery, it is likely the first thing that will wear out.

Being dirtbikes, I think crashes are more of a concern than battery degradation. If kept from overheating and not overcharged/overdischarged Li-Ions can last thousands of cycles.

People break arms, legs, ribs and other things all the time by falling or slipping on sidewalks. How boring. When I break something riding a motorcycle I always say that at least I was having fun!

T day rumor:Trumps buying Alta for covert military operations to discredit Hillary & the Democrats....

Awfully quiet on here lately... anybody hear anything on any other sites???

Welp, a hobbyist just posted a video on youtube showing pallets of Alta Motors batteries that had recently been acquired by EV West. He states in the video that they came from an EV company who went bankrupt, a few minutes after he shows a brand new MXR out front of their shop. So, there's that.

If Alta went bankrupt wouldn’t it be public knowledge? I know we all spent money ordering some extra parts so, if they filed bankruptcy after we sent in our orders they technically wouldn’t have to deliver our parts to us??? Or am I overthinking it.?.?.

Since we all had to prepay with a credit card, it would take no effort to do a charge back to the dealerships for the parts that we did not receive. The credit card companies wouldn't have any issue refunding our money. The dealers would have to make a valid case to the CC company as to why we weren't due our money back. If we don't get the parts, we don't pay for the parts we didn't get.

On the flipside, IF you were the principles at Alta AND discovered/developed/utilized some new tech that eliminated many of the main complaints (range, weight, thermal limiting) BUT said tech was incompatible with much of their production platform making them essentially obsolete AND you were losing money big time to boot, wouldn't you pull the plug on the company and sell off all the old/obsolete inventory before you form a new company based on the new tech with all the lessons learned from the defunct venture?

Not that it helps us in any way, but maybe there's some near-term breakthrough stuff going on in the EV world. Or maybe Alta (actually the market) just decided it wasn't time yet?
