Varg ex red light

I’ve been on about 4 real rides with my varg ex. The first ride was dirt, and I had no problems except we ran into snow.. 😂

Second ride I had switched to SM tires/wheels and 15t front sprocket/42t rear sprocket, and rode it on some errands near my house on roads and highways. Chain was a little looser than ideal because the rear sprocket was so small that i couldn’t scoot the wheel far enough back, but it wasn’t so loose i was too worried about derailing or anything. As I got up to highway speeds (75mph) the bike stopped responding and gave me a red solid LED. I coasted to a stop, turned the bike off and back on and tried it again. A quarter mile later it did it again. Restarted and went again and it died a third time 500 feet short of my driveway. It’s embarrassing to be pushing your dead, brand new motorcycle down the road, especially when it’s electric…

I previously owned a varg mx, and it did the red light thing once or twice when I went full throttle for a few minutes at a time (80mph ish), so I didn’t think too much of this issue, although i thought it was extremely lame that such a powerful and torquey bike can’t go highway speeds for any length of time reliably without overheating or whatever is going on.

Anyways, my third ride was yesterday and i put the dirt wheels back on, 15t front sprocket left on for easier conversion back and forth from street to dirt and back, (15t front and 48t rear for the dirt setup) (mx was 14t/47t, so i figure there shouldn’t be a problem with this, although i had to grind down the front sprocket guard a little bit to get the 15t to not rub). Third ride we went a few easy miles on dirt and then the red light issue happened. Kept going and it happened again. And again. And again. Probably at least 10 times in 10 miles. At its worst i couldn’t go 500 feet without it dying. It predominantly occurred while climbing, fast or slow didn’t matter, never got into anything steep just moderate climbs. Funny thing is, home was almost entirely down hill, and it only died once. Even more perplexing was that there is one long section of uphill highway ride on the way home, 50mph, and it didn’t die. I thought for sure it would. Red light did not correspond to throttle position or any pattern i could discern (riding hard or taking it easy, it would die either way).

Anyways, checked the chain and it was a little tighter than it should be (2 fingers versus 3), so i loosened it, set it perfectly, pumped the tires up a little to reduce rolling resistance (operating under the theory that this was some kind of torque issue due to a tight chain/larger front sprocket/etc), and emailed stark to try to get help.

4th ride this morning we got maybe 3 minutes in and it red lighted. Then 1000 ft later it did it again. And again. And again. VERY easy riding, no way this is a torque, chain or sprocket issue. And it’s getting worse with each ride. Maybe went 2 miles total and it died at least 10 times. Struggled to even get home. Died while easy climbing. Died while basically coasting down hill. Died with hard throttle, died with light throttle. I can’t discern a pattern other than that it’s unusable and getting worse. Sorry all for the novel, I’m waiting for stark to respond, but I’m here on vacation for the next week, was hoping to ride the whole time (as was my dad I’m riding with). Looks like the varg might end up ruinning the trip…
