    Alta Error Codes

There is a threshold, and I can't recall what the voltage is, where the ACM will issue the warning on the dash. If it is present, the battery should be replaced. There usually is some condition present that is causing the battery to drain, so it's important to determine what that is. Once the...

    Alta Error Codes

Alta always recommended that the dealer hook up the laptop anytime any work was done. Just standard procedure. I think you can replace the battery (if that is indeed the problem) and codes will go away on their own. The batteries are designed to endure 10 years of normal use. If owners are...

    Alta Error Codes

Make sure the battery is exactly the same model. L522 lithium. Lowe's usually stocks them.

“Cycle key to clear battery error” with dead battery

It's possible that it's the 9v. Make sure you replace it with the exact same type of battery. You can find them at Lowe's and I believe the guys at WMR keep them in stock. About disassembling the pack: Besides the obvious high voltage danger, note that all the packs were pressure tested at the...

    Alta Error Codes

Out of almost 1000 bikes, I think I saw three instances of contactor weld. That's not really too terrible.

    Alta Error Codes

What Rashid posted are the charger fault codes which are listed in the diagnostic application on the dealer laptops. The code 32-38 are battery fault codes not related to charging.

    Alta Error Codes

This error indicates a problem with the mechanical relay that puts the battery online. There is a bump in the top cover of the battery - this is where the contactor lives. Sometimes, and I stress the word sometines, you can rap that bump with a plastic mallet and free up the contactor. We had a...

Can you adjust the steering head angle and offset

For those here that are removing triple clamps, be aware that Alta changed the torque value on the clamp bolts to 14 Nm towards the end.

I think you're too late, unfortunately.

load / resistance spec for aux / 12v circuit

I don't have that circuit diagram. However, I can't see it being an issue. If the low beam breaker is tripped and you switch to it, the power supply would not interrupt or change. Interesting discovery on your part and something to take note of for owners of EX and SM models. Nice work.

load / resistance spec for aux / 12v circuit

The open circuit created by the switch may be triggering the breaker. It would require a key cycle to reset. If you could make the circuit continue doing work, maybe across a resistance similar to the light, it may work. I've never tried it.

    Overheat warning

Getting a thermal warning at 75mph on the highway is actually most likely the motor itself overheating, not the battery, especially with an R pack. The motor is cooled by the liquid cooling system.

    Alta Error Codes

Yes. Is there a code displayed? Most codes that latch the service light will simply return if you reset the light.

    Rear Subframe failure

The RBH is the aluminum casting that contains the motor, inverter, and gearbox (and the tabs for the rear brake that break when you crash it). The plastic part is the subframe.

It might be a problem, but it will reset with a key cycle.

    spare throttle assembly

First of all, the 80 degree throttle is not very good for a dirt bike. Lots of regripping, simply too much rotation. It was tested early on but proved to be hard to use. I'm not sure about the response the inverter will have to a different throttle config. Haven't tried it. Therefore I can't...

    Switch to kill headlight/taillights

A splice done correctly should not change the inrush current significantly, so that shouldn't be an issue. As for altering the circuit if the switch triggers a circuit break, there are inrush current limiters (ICL) available commercially or you can make the circuit yourself. Do a bit of...

    spare throttle assembly

Just changing the stop would mean the range of voltage would change and you would not have 100% throttle. It does not use a pot, It has two Hall effect sensors in it. The firmware provides for correct behavior. If you were to buy one, you would need to specify that it was for the Alta.

    spare throttle assembly

It's a custom throttle made by Hirschmann for Alta. Rotation is -10/65, not -10/80, which is default.
