    2021 edition of 24 hours of Starvation Ridge October 30 & 31

Got this for punishing myself on my ‘84 CR500R following my oldest kid around on his KX80 in April.

    2021 edition of 24 hours of Starvation Ridge October 30 & 31

I’m up for it...s’pose I better fix that flat front tire from the last lap of the 2020 event.

The last new ALTA on this planet?

Still have not peeled the plastic off or ridden the 2019 EXR, so I guess it is technically still new (4 or so miles on it from the factory testing).

3D print shroud guards to fill in the ribs

I had enough of the ribbed/too wide shrouds and made a set out of aluminum. They fit as flush to the frame in the knee area as is physically possible. Tested them at the Starvation Ridge 24-hour race and was very pleased.

So, roller bearings on big end of crank supposed to be brown colored with flat spots and lots of extra lateral movement...not shiny, round with no play, right? Lol! Crankshaft that resulted in Silas’ “ride of shame”.

    Top Fairing screws

If you rub a little permatex gasket sealer (I use ultra black) on the threads of the screws before installing them, they will not vibrate out even if you tighten them to less than the torque spec. and they will not corrode or seize in place.

25 hours of starvation ridge 2020

My new shrouds work great; no knee discomfort after almost 100 miles in one day. I am thinking about knee braces and neck protection because, even though I don’t ride as hard as I did a couple decades ago, I am becoming more interested in reducing the likelihood of injuries.

25 hours of starvation ridge 2020

The jog in riding boots is an interesting experience before hopping on and being out of breath as you take off...we all enjoyed the event.

So will there be lots of mud or primarily hard pack? A Geomax or Cross Competition day?

25 hours of starvation ridge 2020

Of all my dirt and dual sport bikes, this KLR250 has the most ergonomic and comfortable width/contour in the knee area.

25 hours of starvation ridge 2020

This particular area sticks out too far, my goal will be to have it almost flush with the frame with the new guards.

    The Storm Bee is out!

I would also like it if there was a map where throttle response was purely linear instead of the “rubber-band” effect. Map 4 is best, for sure, and you can get around this timing/delay thing when possible by blipping the throttle about a third of the way and then quickly re-throttling...be...

Lol, it is never too early to start addressing solutions to the issues I had last year. My new “radiator” shrouds will definitely take an entire day to fabricate, but my knees will thank me for the rest of the time I own the bike.

Will the Alta last a 2 person scramble?

My main riding buddy would love to do this race with us...but he doesn’t have an Alta, and he is always too broke to buy one when they come up for sale. If he obtains one before next year he can be counted on to race.

    Sigh...

lol, easier to get plates and tabs for my F-350...and I prefer mpg to gpm (gallons per mile). Cool pic, anyhow 👍

@F451 if you committed to go, but then your health tanked while at the event I have a friend that would probably love to ride this race (he just doesn’t have an Alta). Standby rider potential?
