    Electric clutch

If some of you folks are serious I can design and machine a clutch system. It’d replace the solid secondary gear very similar to a standard ICE clutch (basket, pressure plate, pull rod, lever, possibly a new counter shaft). Probably use only half the plates and stiffer springs to keep the width...

I suspect it some kind of electrolysis going on.

Cone valve wp forks on an Alta

Cone Valves are notoriously tough to setup. The tolerances between cones, cone springs, etc make getting consistent and repeatable results difficult, even for the experienced tuner. Of my three sets of CVs only one still uses that valving design. The other two have been converted to standard...

2018 mxr Battery apart finally. Interesting pics

Nope, Onelapper is the only person I'm aware of horse trading R modules. Those things are scarce as hen's teeth. Of course, I don't see how any of the damage shown would lead to having the whole module not report. That's more of a SPI/CAN Bus interface issue I'd think. In fact, I recently...

2018 mxr Battery apart finally. Interesting pics

That PWB gonna require major surgery as it appears to have zapped/corroded some trace clear off the board! After that I'd be concerned about cell damage. Well, someone had to be the first to experiment with PCB/cell replacement. Yours looks like a good candidate. If you do a module swap...

    Nice garage! Is it a steel building? A snow blower in San Diego . . . . . .

    Charger help please!

The BMS monitors the voltage of each P-group (21 per module, 84 total). Each P-group has 6 18650 cells. However, the system looks at each p-group as being ONE unique cell, not 6. If during discharge ANY p-group reaches the minimum voltage (the ave voltage of the 6 18650 cells wired in...

    Charger help please!

That's a full pack in my book. However, what might be happening is that the system is looking at the one LOW cell and predicting that it'll hit minimum cell cut-off voltage much sooner the remaining cells and therefore the EQUIVALENT charge is only about 20%. Makes sense as they wouldn't want...

    Charger help please!

If you have the total voltage (or ave V/cell) for each module you can do the math and figure out what the ACTUAL SOC is. Use around 342v for 100% SOC and 210v as empty. You'll at least determine if it's simply a display issue. Voltages in the midranges are the most inaccurate when determining...

Also, you should be able to download the last couple of ride/charge files and you might be able to see something from them.

When the packs out of the frame make sure you add a grd wire between the pack housing and the chassis. Wont change your issue but it's a good practice. On the brighter side, most of these kind of problems turn out to be a simple fix, a bad electronic component or two. Twenty bucks and some...

New to me 2017 MX... Code 33 / 007 charging fault...

Another thought - Rashid gave me a bad HV DCCP cable a few weeks back. The red tag said it failed highpot (a test for isolation). I took the harness apart and actually found a tiny nick in one of the two HV charge wires which was intermittently contacting the pigtail for the shield ground...

New to me 2017 MX... Code 33 / 007 charging fault...

Yes, the iso resistance varies as batt voltage/temperature/etc changes over time. Shouldn't change more than 10-15% I would expect. For more safety and redundancy Alta built in circuity into BOTH the positive and negative legs of the HV DC system. If the fault is in the negative side of the...

The most difficult part is just getting access to the various connectors and modules. Pulling the pack makes things so much easier and the harness is long enough so you can re-connect and key-on without completely re-installing the pack.

New to me 2017 MX... Code 33 / 007 charging fault...

Problem with isolation issues is that multitool doesn't say WHERE the problem is, just that you have low isolation. Could be a problem in the pack, DCCP or Inverter. I believe you can unplug the DCCP and inverter LV connectors to see if the isolation values change (one at a time) but I've...

    Alta Error Codes

Of all the faults a HV Isolation errors is probably the most concerning (from a potential shock hazard standpoint). Alta decided that a high voltage system (above 100v or so) was the best way to go and I agree. However, HV does come with human safety risks that most low voltage system don't...

Whoops, didn't check the link. No, other than roll the firmware back to an older version which are a bit more fault reporting tolerant. Code 36 can't be ignored forever, however.
