Help me convert an MXR into an SMR -- Progress Thread

Yes, agreed, the low voltage is probably signal not working voltage. All external accessories would be both controlled (input signal) and powered (12v?) through the second ACM connector/harness. You'd think there'd be some additional safety features that mimic an ICE bike, like a kickstand...

Help me convert an MXR into an SMR -- Progress Thread

#3 and #4 look like they go into the open pigtails from the ACM. Not sure about the application, those are low voltage (3-5v) pins. Maybe some of the accessories only need 3-5 volts?

    Brand and type of Controller

It's a proprietary Alta design and therefore not commercially available. However, someday the various subcontractors/vendors who contributed to the manufacturing may begin selling them, but I wouldn't bet on it.

    For Sale Motor for sale.

That looks like an engineering or development model motor. It's got the thermal winding potting (the OEM motors don't have this). I believe that same motor was referenced here on the AOF sometime back. I'd be interested in the damaged motor if you can put me in contact with the source.

MXR dead this morning... (and now alive!)

The 9v system doesn't charge, it's just a high quality 9v Lithium battery from the Energizer Bunny, similar to what you might find in a good household fire alarm. You'll find it under a little access cover inside the ACM. I'm sure there's a link somewhere in the AOF showing how to replace it...

MXR dead this morning... (and now alive!)

The whole "12v power on" system starts with the 9v battery and the key switch. It simply sends 9v to the BCU which directs it several ways. One circuits goes to the controller chip, one to the a timer, and another to a photovoltaic isolator which controls the main 12v DCDC down converter...

EXR Battery Control Unit (BCU) Question

Yes, they're commercially available. I know the A pack part number but not the R pack, sorry. However, search the site as I'm pretty sure someone posted the part number somewhere.

EXR Battery Control Unit (BCU) Question

It's for the R pack for sure. Note, you'll need to buy or swap out the two contactors.

New owner - scary question.. (Code 36)

A tenth of a volt difference between modules is more than enough to trip a code. Looks like module 1 (0) is your problem child.

New owner - scary question.. (Code 36)

As more and more people are cracking open these packs I feel obliged to mention one thing (besides the obvious safety hazard). The PCBs in the pack are coated with a thin non-conductive protective film which is pretty rugged. For the most part you just need to keep reasonably clean (absolutely...

New owner - scary question.. (Code 36)

If you ship the pack to me here in SoCal I can fix the open wirebond, however, as Rashid mentioned there's probably more bonds just waiting to break as time goes by.

    New Motors to improve range??

The Alta motor is about 17 lbs. However, I'd need more data before coming to any conclusions regarding this so called "breakthrough". For example, they quote power/torque density but that doesn't consider size or shape. Yes, it might very well have 2x torque density but if the darn thing...

    Code 35

If you ship the pack to me and I'll take a look. I've fixed several code 36 packs already. The only issue is that with these bad wire welds packs you never know when another failure will occur and there's no known preventative fix (yet). A non-destructive wire bond "pull test" would probably...

    Sold 2017 MX

Yes, you're has the throttle digitizer re-located inside the inverter. That's a good thing.

Does you bike have the "in line" throttle digitizer/CAN transceiver? You see it behind the front number plate.

EXR wont turn on -- Solved

The pack can be bench charged but you'll need to remove the cover to gain access to the "Pack side" positive and negative terminals. You'll also need a constant current/constant voltage 350v power supply or charger. Obviously all the high voltage safety rules apply as well.

    MXR Negative Contact Relay Failure........

Like most electronics that fail the most typical suspects are the parts that work the hardest and are exposed to great internal and external stress (electrically, thermally and mechanically speaking). Fuses, voltage regulators, oscillators and diodes are my go-to-first checks. Depending on the...

    MXR Negative Contact Relay Failure........

The Texas Instrument part is TMS570LS10106 ARM Cortex-R4F Flash Microcontroller. It's only being produced to fulfill current contracts and therefore is not available for purchase from Ti (I tried). There are other electronic supply companies that have inventory but for how long and in many...

    MXR Negative Contact Relay Failure........

These bikes are actually pretty simple in regards to the number and type of electronic components within all our "black boxes". Not that the circuity and logic is simple, quite the contrary, it's very advanced. However, the fact is that advances in microchip technology has lead to huge...

    Triangle Lever for 2019 EXR

I'll bet any late model KTM/Husky is identical to yours. I've got one on my bike. See them on ebay all the time.
