DIY LHRB that retains the foot brake

I think I should re-post the DIY LHRB recipe, which is buried on Page 6 of The Alta Factory LHRB thread. Here is the recipe: 1) Brembo clutch 9mm master cylinder KTM P/N 79202030044 from the 2017 KTM SX-F 250/350 2) Clutch hose KTM P/N 60032063100 from the 2014+ KTM Adventure (must straighten...

    Did some forum housekeeping today

I did some forum housekeeping today: Created a new Technical --> Firmware sub-forum and moved some firmware-related threads there. Most of them were buried in General Discussion before. I am expecting this sub-forum to grow as we are learning more about firmware and how it controls the...

Alta SM and Supermoto Track Day Questions

More acronyms and nomenclature. SAE J1772 (IEC Type 1), also known as a "J plug", is a North American standard for electrical connectors for electric vehicles maintained by the SAE.

Oh no, another electric acronym. EVSE - Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment control. It is a protocol to help keep you and your electric car safe while charging.

    Interesting home made “powerwall” video

How would you sort out the bad batteries, especially after they are soldered together? Also, how to charge and discharge them safely? Are these pretty safe if you do not put high currents into or out of them?

That's not fair, you had a head start!

How many want to keep the foot brake?

I have another idea. How about designing a protective cover or bracket for the rear brake cylinder? If done right, it would prevent that failure from happening on other bikes, or hold the cylinder in place if this failure has already occurred. Design it in CAD, CNC machine a few pieces, and...

How many want to keep the foot brake?

It's $100 for the long LHRB line, or $300 if Alta won't sell it separately, plus dealing with not having the foot brake. Or $658 plus the installation labor. Or welding, machining, plus the installation labor. Or making some bracket contraption to keep the bottom on the cylinder in place.

How many want to keep the foot brake?

I could, but I probably won't. I have an "oh $#!+ reflex" in my right foot but not in my right hand. If I jump with the front wheel too high up, or if something unexpected happens in front of me, I instinctively hit the rear brake.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

I realized today that I will not be using the Neutral wire on my 240V shore power input, ever. If I connect the 240V shore power the inverter has an automatic transfer switch, which will disconnect the inverter's output from the batteries and connect it to the shore power. This is all done...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

My A/C is a standalone 110V unit. I also have a small fridge. The inverter has then both on the same leg and they work just fine. Yes. This is the model: Aims Power 4000 Watt Pure Sine Inverter Charger 12VDC to120/240 VAC

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

That's a good and useful advice here. Thank you, Mark. I did not think about using circuit breakers on 12V circuits. How to decide whether to use a circuit breaker or a fuse? I am having a hard time separating the 120V and 240V circuits because all of my 120V comes from the 240V legs. But I...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Besides adding LiFePO4 batteries and an inverter, I am also converting my van into a camper van at the same time. I will be leaving a lot of unrelated projects for later, but the electrical system must be started off correctly from the beginning, else I will be re-doing it over and over. I am...

    New Battery Tech

I've uses a simple water mist spray very successfully to cool my track day car's engine and oil. Just disabled the wipers and re-routed the windshield washer sprinklers to spray onto the radiator and oil cooler instead. Worked very well. My friend used his to spray-cool his front brakes. A...
