Going racing on my Alta Redshift MX!

This track had a lot of deep sand. Power sliding in sand is awesome on the Alta, but it is hard on the battery. The track was very long too, I had only 7/8 of the battery left after a 7-minute sight lap. So, on this track I pulled over after just 27 minutes of racing. That is 34 minutes of run...

Going racing on my Alta Redshift MX!

A quick update: I just finished racing. Was going in the top 3, maybe even 1st, in my usual here in the southwest 40+ C class. As expected, the battery died after half of the race. Oh well, I ran out of steam myself a few minutes earlier. But I think I would have been able to relax and finish...

    Alta's use of rapid prototyping

Carbon printed prototype parts. Very cool. I've heard Lamborghini stamps carbon production parts, making them quickly and cheaply.

Battery Technology and Best practice battery care

From what I heard, incomplete discharges aren't bad, but incomplete top-offs could be. Like when adding some charge between the motos. We have some resident battery technology experts here, perhaps they can pitch in. @Mark911

    240V Gasoline Generators

Both of these Home Depot generators are 120 only. False alarm, sorry. They still somehow came up under my 240V searches. It is probably safer to get stuff shipped from Alibaba than Home Depot. At least you know you will be getting 220-240V.

    240V Gasoline Generators

This is the one that I really want: EDIT: Honda 3000-Watt Super Quiet from Home Depot is also 120V only. No good.

    240V Gasoline Generators

I am shopping for a 240V generator. I want to charge the bike at the track between the motos quickly. Need something small, light, cheap, and quiet. Preferably with an electric start. Pick two, right? Did a quick Google search. There is a bunch of 220V generators on Alibaba and such, priced...

    Coolant leaked?

You are absolutely right, Steve, thanks! Nothing to worry about, I just l need to check the coolant level some time later. From the Alta Redshift owner's manual: COOLANT AND GEAR OIL 1. The Redshift relies on coolant to keep motor and controller temperatures in check and gear oil to lubricate...

Which maps are for what? (MX, MXR, EX)

That was one of my first questions. Apparently, Alta dealers already have the laptops to update the software. Marc, the Alta CEO, said they plan to let dealers adjust the maps to customers' liking. That was 1 year ago. It's time to ask again, I suppose.

    Goldentyre GT216AA "Fatty" front

Sand. And sand with rocks, when you are forced to run higher pressures in order not to dent the rims. Maybe big rocks too, on high-speed tracks/trails. But not the wet and slippery kind, there you need a soft sidewall again.

Going racing on my Alta Redshift MX!

The track was hard pack but freshly groomed, so it was pretty soft. Not great for rolling resistance. Yes, about 40-45 minutes is what I expected at the racing pace. If I could stop and let myself and the battery cool down, maybe it would have been 50 minutes. I do not think 55 minutes is...

Going racing on my Alta Redshift MX!

I was using Map 2. It is relaxing and has a high regenerative braking. Although at the track the regen braking does not make much of a difference, I just like how the bike decelerates more. EDIT: I ran it until the last bar on the battery status stopped blinking. You still get to limp a couple...

    My Clake LHRB

I see three possible upgrades: 1) Alta has made some prototype, which they aren't selling yet, but @Butch got his hands on one. I am not optimistic about it. It uses the Brembo clutch lever and is not plumbed into the rear master cylinder, so it eliminated the foot brake, until they figure out...

    My Clake LHRB

This is the cheapest Clake model (still expensive!), made as an upgrade over Rekluse and fits well with the KTM's Brembo clutch lever. It works well, better than the Rekluse. Perfect for trail riding and sand. But it needs more power for hardpack and clay.

    Coolant leaked?

Went to practice in the sand today. New track, not pushing hard. Stopped after 10 minutes, noticed some fluid on the lower frame members. Tastes either like coolant or like brake fluid, I cannot tell, not a drinker of this stuff. No LHRB fluid leaks. I wiped it off and went out again. Another...

    Goldentyre GT216AA "Fatty" front

Went to practice in the sand today. New Goldentyre Fatty in the front with Tube Saddle, at 6psi! The tire worked great. This is my new favorite sant and rock tire. It is sized at 90/100-21. Wider that average, with a larger OD, and with stiff sidewalls. This allows to run lower tire pressures...

Which maps are for what? (MX, MXR, EX)

Pitch in what your experience has been with map selection. Here are my notes: Map 1 -- Great for beginners, amazing for climbing slippery ands rocky hills, saving battery and extending range. Map 2 -- Trail riding. I like the extra regenerative engine braking in this map. Map 3 -- Great for...

Going racing on my Alta Redshift MX!

I had a practice yesterday. I wanted to see how long the bike and myself would go on one charge. The bike lasted two warmup laps and 35 minutes of racing. A total of 40 minutes to drain the battery. Myself not as long. I was out of breath and had to slow down after 25 minutes. I had a heart...

Going racing on my Alta Redshift MX!

My 1st race of the season is one week away. I just signed up for Round 3 of the WORCS racing series in Lake Havasu City, AZ: https://worcsracing.com/round-3-4-mc-crazy-horse-lake-havasu-az-march-23-25-2018 The race is 55 minutes long, and the battery will probably not last to the end. But I...
