Lets ditch the gas vs. electric debate and get to talking about owning an Alta

I meant "use in anger", as in "use for real", it is just an expression. No, I wasn't angry. In fact, I was quite happy with all the available maps! Welcome to the forum, Chaconne!

Lets ditch the gas vs. electric debate and get to talking about owning an Alta

Map 1 and 2 for trail riding. Map 1 is great for slippery uphills and "fuel" economy. Map 2 for everything else. At the MX track it is Map 3, most of the time. I tried Map 4 last weekend at the track in anger. It has its benefits too. The response is more immediate, the throttle becomes...

Check out my private MX training facility

I can expand that by 1 acre, if the DNR doesn't mind me riding an electric on protected wetlands, LOL. I doubt though. I own them but I can't do anything there.

Electric has an awesome throttle control

It took me longer than a couple of rides to realize that I can control the rear wheel slip way better than I could with a gas engine. Power sliding is a breeze, at any speed. Today I came across this Youtube video. A dude put an electric powertrain in a drift car. He is an engineer, but the...

Re-springing a 2017 Alta Redshift MX (and then revalving too)

UPDATE: The respring/revalve absolutely works for motocross. I have been fiddling with the forks' and shock's clickers and found a very nice combination. Works on this bike definitely better than the stock KYB SSS. If you own a Redshift with the 4CS suspension and want to try this revalve, here...

Check out my private MX training facility

Last year I made myself a nice figure 8 or cloverleaf track in my tiny backyard. It is 1st gear only, but it is still a lot of fun and a good practice! I try to create and maintain decent ruts, so that I could practice them. That was last year, before I bough my Redshift. I was only able to...

List of aftermarket products for the Alta

I have added all the official info that Alta emailed to me to Steve's post above. Also, many thanks for our aftermarker suppliers for continuously expanding this list!

Nate Adams does a back flip on an Alta

Awesome! I wonder whether whips will be more difficult, with no flywheel gyro effect. The spinning wheels are still there though.

Lets ditch the gas vs. electric debate and get to talking about owning an Alta

On my 2017 Redshift MX I get 30+ miles trail riding, which is over 2 hours, with some juice left. I had 35-40 mile days too, but I had to ration the power on those days. At the MX track I get only 20 miles, which is about 40-45 minutes. Good enough for a light day of training. I have a 12-110V...

Re-springing a 2017 Alta Redshift MX (and then revalving too)

I revalved the stock 4CS fork this week following the specs that Alta sent me. The local MX track is closed for two seeks. So I went to my favorite off-road trail to test it. OMG! The ravalved shock worked before but now the fork works too! This was not a motocross track test with jumps and...

Re-springing a 2017 Alta Redshift MX (and then revalving too)

I have revalved the shock last weekend, following the new specs that Alta gave me. IT WORKED! I set both the compression and the rebound at 15 clicks at home and did not have to touch them at the track. The bike is well balanced, and I can jump much higher and farther. And the traction is still...

Re-springing a 2017 Alta Redshift MX (and then revalving too)

Back from testing a stock KYB SSS (2015 YZ450F) front end on my Alta. It worked! I put one 0.54 kg/mm and one 0.56 kg/mm spring in it. I ended up with almost the same clicker settings that I ran on the 2-stroke: Compression - 10 clicks, Rebound 8 clicks. The KYB SSS saves the day! I am getting...

Re-springing a 2017 Alta Redshift MX (and then revalving too)

Alta just emailed me a spreadsheet with the shim stack specs from their motocross team! I am pumped!!! :giggle:(y)

Re-springing a 2017 Alta Redshift MX (and then revalving too)

I will try to keep things simple. Move the YZ450F front end from my Husky onto the Alta and install stiffer springs. The Alta's fork springs are 12% stiffer, so maybe the SSS holds up. But I must revalve the shock. The shock spring on the Alta is 20% stiffer.
