BAD NEWS

@datadog, will the known battery issues be disclosed so we (@snydes, myself, others) source repair elsewhere?

I doubt they'd just volunteer that information. However, there must be some bond/insurance or something to cover potential product liability issues. We've all been damaged (financially) and the products in many cases have been rendered inoperable. I hate to say it, but maybe the threat of a class action might loosen up their collective technical tongues before our bikes become obsolete.

It would be nice to know, Serial number (last few digits) from where good batteries were sent? If I look for another bike, I don't want the recurring issue.

Here it is:

Although Alta has ceased operations, there is still an opportunity that the company and it's assets will be purchased and resume operations. Unfortunately the chances of that happening are not high. In the short term, a slim team has been assembled to help with the wind down and this team will be able to ship some parts to dealers. If you need parts or think you might need parts for your Redshifts, act quickly! Reach out to your dealers and ask them to order parts for you ASAP. Not all parts are available - batteries for example - but the team will do their best to fill orders from dealers if they can. Thanks for all your support.

Stay Fast.

That's good news for me. I need a replacement subframe and i'm going to stock up on anything else i can get my hands on. I know there are a few owners who have surplus parts. I'd be willing to sell anything i have when i get it for the same price i got it for. I say lets keep this community close and help eachother out as much as we can.

There are some really dedicated people making this happen behind the scenes. If you need parts order them now!

Maybe that dedicated team could also look for ways to satisfy warranty claims. Surely there are bikes sitting there that could be cannibalized. But I guess that wouldn't result in income.

I am probably getting ahead of anyone's visibility with this question, but I'll ask anyway...

Assuming that there will eventually be some broken bikes to cannibalize and therefore some used parts available, any idea if a dealer or anyone else will be able to use an ALTA laptop to "un-brick" a bike with a replaced display or a similar reset issue? It is my understanding that today the laptop will not talk to the bike without being connected to the ALTA server.

Definitely thinking that protection for the display would be an even better idea at this point.

Just think, parting out your bike could be quite lucrative now and in the future. I've already moved on. My 06 YZ 125/167 project. I've got tons of KTM/WP parts for my Alta so I'm calling it my KaTom-a-Ha. It's funny, my pack is out of the Alta and it STILL seems heavier than the ready to ride Yamaha! I forgot what lightweight feels like:). I almost "launched" the Yamaha into the back of my pickup while running it up the ramp, LOL.

Just looking into federal law and from an initial glance (probably wrong), I believe it suggests that if a manufacture offers a warrantee on specific parts they must comply for a set period of time, less than 5 years probably. If they cannot comply they must either provide a new vehicle in exchange or offer a full refund.

Of course, here's where everyone reads the fine print regarding our warrantees. I think I remember mine stating that if the vehicle was raced the warrantee was voided. Pretty stupid for a race bike, so I just assumed my bike had no warrantee from the start.

I called my dealer and placed an order. They got an email last night at 12am EST stating that the parts and support phone numbers will be working again, they will be taking parts orders, all orders must be pre-paid and shipping charges will apply. He was able to place an order within Alta's system and it was accepted. Alta will ship what they have available and refund the dealer what they cannot fulfill.
