I'm a sucker for updates so I prodded the app and the bike to update, but there is nothing for the EX.
Currently: 1.2.8 for the bike and 2.6.1 for the app.

My bike updated the firmware (and some other stuff) to 1.5.0 today. Took quite a while to complete so it must have been something major. No update to the app. AFAICT there are at least changes to the crawl modes. Forward crawl always seemed a bit weak while reverse crawl was pretty strong and a bit herky-jerky. Now forward still is super smooth yet seems more powerful and reverse is matching this - very nice detail work. I also have the feeling that pick-up from zero throttle has changed - front seems lighter to lift but without any negatives; that might be wishful thinking though and really needs a good ride to verify. As usual SAM knows nothing about the new firmware.

Just curious, does anyone know what criteria Stark uses to determine which bikes get the updates earlier than others? VIN? Hours? Color? Owners attitude?
i would guess daily use, they have a LIVE MAP in which colored dots are seen all over the world map with all the bikes that are been used in real time, i think they have some software that tracks all bikes and determine which ones are being used the most. Not by hours or distance but from daily use, if you use it everyday or every 2/3 days constantly with that pattern you will considered a high user, if you only ride it on weekends you are average and if you use it 1 every other week you should sell it :ROFLMAO: You get the point.

I think this based on the fact that since I got mine, I haven't gone more than three days without using it, even if it's just for a short ride around my neighborhood (yes im very obsessed) And I have a friend who's had it since the same day as me, but he uses it much less, both have the same KM's and all his updates always arrive several days or even a week or more later

I think they use a racist AI algorithm that determines if you have too many vowels in your name to be of northern European decent. Therefore Swedes go to the head of the update list and Spaniards go to the end of the line, ironically even though the bike is made in Spain. Well AI even thinks the bike is made in Sweden so the learning algorithm must of had a straight go to racist call:

if ((!Swede) || (!NorthernEuropean))
forceToEndOfFWUpdateQ();

The algorithm considers Spain, Italy, and Greece to be all the same place. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It's based mostly on mileage. I believe this time they are also rolling out the firmware to MXs first, I've seen a lot of people on old bikes having issues with battery warnings popping up now (which seems to be a bug).

yep, the low voltage battery pack pop up right?, hopefully its a bug. i see a lot of people panicking on facebook sharing that

What is the point of trickling out a software update? It's not like they will run out of bandwidth.
It only complicates the process for no advantage, from my view.

Note this about 4G. If you have the phone connected to your house WiFi that may be used first.

Slow rollouts of updates like this help catch potential issues before they cause wide-spread problems. The issue folks are seeing with the battery warnings is why you want to take an approach like this. While Stark probably should be doing a better job at internal QA you still cannot test for 100% of the problems you will see in the wild, and firmware updates are the highest risk for causing issues or bricking the bike completely.

Firmware updates happen via the VCU and 4G only, the phone doesn't do anything and I'm 95% sure it doesn't need to be on/connected at all.

I can confirm that. My phone was turned off and tucked away in a box when I got the blinking Magenta light for the current update. Started the update and turned on the phone later to check for any visible changes.

100% correct.

Also, it is often difficult for QA to replicate the wild 100%. Plus, in much of current software culture a lot of traditional hands on QA is no longer done. Automated QA and Developers creating unit tests that are migrated to QA test suites has become common and this IMHO pushes testing further away from the wild.

And that is why seemingly obvious bugs --often in very basic use cases-- are escaping to customers, in my view at least.

I can confidently confirm the changes in crawl mode. There is a fairly steep incline leading up from my workshop and when I first got the Varg this was the initial playground to check out the new electric bike. Wanted to climb it in crawl mode, but it wasn't enough power to make it all the way up - was a pretty painful first experience :muutt:. Now with the updated forward crawl mode it is no issue at all - actually there seems to be quite a bit more torque involved, so you definitely don't want to underestimate it.

thats good! and what about the reverse crawl? is much smoother now? before it was very aggressive, it stops very fast

Thinking about it, it's taken them 8 months to update the smoothness of crawl mode and reverse crawl mode... quite slow, to be honest
