Seems like a good feature. Ive been messing around trying to get other gps timer apps to work but it seems none of the free ones will work for me. This natively on the bikes phone looks like what im after. The video mentions a 3 month trial of a pro data pack. I wonder what the cost of this pack will be.

They are just desperate for "Pro" to not look like a piss take at this stage...
The tracks feature is nothing more than the history tab with a gps start/stop and an ok looking UI. The biggest issue is, we all know the GPS is iffy at best. I mean, I've had kilometres difference recorded on the exact same run! When you're chasing 10ths, a GPS wobble of a couple of meters will skew the times.

I use the RaceChrono app on my personal phone. I have it in a pocket in my USWE hydration pack, so obviously I cannot see it while riding. I plan to test it in split screen mode on the Arkenstone, but haven't done so yet.

The tracks feature seem ok, but I dont plan to go for the pro subscription just yet

Yea it could be. But it wasn't so clear to me because they called it a pro data pack which is different to its original branding. The trial period is also longer.

It might be cheaper to just pay for pro for the MX season though, then cancel it. I can understand why its a subscription from a usage perspective. Its a data cost for Stark. Anyway i'll give this 3 month trial a go and see if its worth paying for after that.

It's still the same subscription. Stark have just rebranded to make it sound less money grabbing.

Unless you're getting longer than 3 months on the trial, that hasn't changed either (3 month trials are a common tactic, as a majority of customers forget the dates, untill money leaves their accounts).

As for the data cost, that's only their end when Stark wants too push an update (assuming you haven't allowed wifi access). AFAIK none of Starks "Pro" features need data, only GPS. I currently run, Waze, Wikiloc, GPS speedo, GTA:SA and GTA:VC with no data usage.

Everything the "Pro" offers can be found on the App store for free (and in all cases, better!)

Dave, can you tell, I really don't like the subscription? Ha ha

Fair, it would be nice to find a good lap timer though. As I mentioned, I tried to use some of the free ones. Not sure what they were all called but it was at least 4 different gps lap timing apps. Couldn't get any of them to work well on the Stark phone as once in the background they stopped and I couldn't split screen any of them. If the lap timer is good, it might be enough of a reason to sub to their plan for 3-4 months a year. I already pay a shitload to ride laps including all the insurance, membership and track fees. This little quality of life payment won't even make a scratch. But I can see the resistance to a life of subscriptions, they throw them on everything these days.
