Give us a few years and we will tell you the whole story.
For now I will leave it to this:
I firmly believe there were 3 main reasons why Alta failed.
Harley was one of them.
That being said, Harley's behavior was very rational from their point of view.
So we had an ex-Alta employees reunion last weekend, kind of like a death anniversary of sorts.
I was chatting with some of the people keeping an eye on the community and one of them mentioned something that made me both happy and sad:
There has been 0 new failure mode in the past year.
It...
I am not sure what you mean here, but the battery pack is air-cooled.
The water pump turns on to keep the inverter cool while charging.
If you want to keep the pack cool, point a fan to it. Make sure you get the heatsink on top.
I do not believe that will work.
IMS, only VINs tagged as "engineering bikes" can be messed with (including the Erzberg FW I believe), and we have lost that capability when the company died.
Well... so the failure mode is the contactor is getting stuck closed.
Over time, there will be more and more deposit on the contacts and it will eventually stay closed for good.
It is difficult/impossible to say how that process will take.
I believe it happens only when the bike is off.
It won't...
Before taking anything apart, I recommend a gentle tap on the top of the pack with a rubber mallet.
If that doesnt work, get a bigger mallet
I'm joking... if it doesnt work, you will likely have to change the top cover.
A very easy way to get bubbles out of a system is to zip tie the brake lever pressed in about half-way while you transport the bike. The vibration of the road will help bubbles go back up in the MC.
