240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

Not sure what the rules are here on vendors, and I don’t want to break any rules. Really not looking to sell anything, but I also don’t want to see people pay more than they have too. I have seen some really high numbers floating around on what it will cost for an off grid charging setup. I...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

380V charger is relatively easy, like most things it just takes money :ricky:, but not really that much ($665 plus shipping). The charger I have in my car will go to 417V and I think the charger from a Chevy Volt will will go to 420V with an appropriate CAN controller, but it is liquid cooled...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

If you are using lithium batteries you need a specialized charger. As rajivers stated you can't charge a lithium battery, at least not if you want the battery to last, with an alternator or a dumb charger. Lithium batteries require a somewhat specialized charge curve and then at a preset point...

    2019 / 2020 wish list

Yes, most current electric cars don't have a transmission, just a reduction gear box. They go in reverse by reversing the motor rotation direction and electronically limiting the speed. I am not sure of the programming necessary to accomplish, but I don't think it is that complex.

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

I received the inverter last week and set up my LiFePO4, off grid charging system over the weekend. I used it once to charge the bike and everything worked just like I was plugged into the wall. The system consists of 75, CALB CA 40AH cells in a 15 series, 5 parallel configuration. System...

    Regen in different maps?!

Just to confirm what was stated earlier. This is from the 2017 Redshift Owners & Service Manual: "When the HV battery is full, regen will be automatically reduced to prevent overcharge". "If the HV battery is below freezing temperature, it will refuse to charge, and drive power will be...

Charging strategies for long battery life?

I saw this post on lithium batteries on another forum and thought it was a pretty good summation of how lithium batteries get damaged. As Snydes stated we really don't know what protections Alta built into the bike so we may not have to do anything, but the info is still valuable. Are you...

240V Inverter in a Van or Truck

I have a 10kw lithium battery pack that I was using on another project. That project is dead, so I thought I would repurpose as a pack to power an inverter to charge my EX when camping without access to power. In talking to inverter manufactures, one of them states that if it is an inductive...

    Alta Fast charger

I did and that is why I am confused. J1772 only provides power, just like plugging into any electrical socket at home. If you have a box that simulates a car and closes the contactor in a home or public EVSE, it should work just fine, assuming your charger can operate on 240 Vac if that is...

    Alta Fast charger

I am a little confused by all of this. First there are no public chargers, unless you count DC fast charging like the tesla supercharger, CHAdeMO or the DC combo plug. These are kind of like chargers in that the vehicle communicates with the permanently installed, land based charger, tells it...

An Open Petition to Alta to let us create our own maps (and to modify Map 3)

This much is absolutely certain, I have more regen in map 3 than I have in map 2 and more regen in map 4 than I have in map 3. I have factually established that by measuring the distance it takes me to stop on my EX, in all the maps, from same speed (as close as I could get it, 35 mph indicated...

An Open Petition to Alta to let us create our own maps (and to modify Map 3)

I personally do not want to get into all the programming that Mark911 is talking about, but I would like to be able to select between the map modes that Alta has already developed. From the look of the quick start guides, Alta divides the map modes into Low, Mild, Medium and High for Traction...

    Alta Fast charger

I am sure there are others, but here is one. J1772 Adapter | Home. Most of the j1772 public chargers will be 220v so you need to be aware of that.

    Tesla Powerwall

Yep, but if you have a Model X you can tow the bike, maybe charge the bike off the car ( have to figure out how to do that) and then charge the car at a super charger station. The Tesla's are up to 100kw packs so running out of power shouldn't be too much of a problem.

    At the Tipping Point

I have an EX that I ride on trails, fire roads and commute on. 40 miles at 45 or less should not be a problem. I regularly commute 20 miles round trip to work and back on a little lees than half a battery at the same speeds (max of 50 mph). The most I have gone is 48 miles, but I just putting...

Coolant pump running while charging, why?

In the coolant pump not running thread, Mark911 stated, "The water cooling is for the inverter and motor only. The pack is cooled via convection just like our old air cooled bikes". I have no reason to doubt that, but if true and I think it is, then why does the coolant pump run while charging...
