    Wanderings of an EXR

Took the EXR out again in the snow. We have been having 6" snowfalls then hard freeze then more snow. The total was pretty darn deep in the woods. The spikes in the rear left nothing to be desired as traction was great. The front was not as good. It never totally slid out but it always felt...

    I've joined the Ranks

It is amazing the traction and handling the Alta has in deep snow with a set of spikes, such as a set of Trelleborgs. I almost forgot how much fun winter riding was/is. Welcome to the clan.

    Rivian SUV

It's not a paint job but a wrap. They have been doing testing of the R1T and now the R1S and they usually give it some sort of wrap. I have a R1T on pre-order and hope to get it about August. It has a compressor outlet in the bed as well as 120v outlets. I will be able to charge my Alta...

    Wanderings of an EXR

Rix, this isn't the one I bought from you. It is the one I bought new in Texas and changed the blue to brown. I have yours set up as a dual sport.

    SONDORS Metacycle $5K electric motorcycle

When I took the test ride at Highland Park, GA I told him I had two problems with it......... 1.) How can I get you the money. 2.) How can I fit it on an over crowded trailer to take it back to PA with me. Needless to say, I figured out both solutions.

Battery care -- winter riding and hibernation

I have been out the last two weekends in the cold. It was 26*F when I loaded it into the truck. It was almost two hours before we started riding and the temp never went above 35*F. I had absolutely no issues and no power restrictions running woods trails in map 2. Lots of ice so the studs...

Want to buy Timing cover and gear cover gaskets

All you have to do is get gasket material at NAPA and trace the cover on it. Cut it out, punch the holes, put sealer on one side and bolt it back together. I have done it on two EXRs now. It's very cheap and doesn't take long to do.

Why do the 2017 MX's get overlooked?

I had a 17 MX then went to the 19 EXRs. I noticed some of the parts looked identical but were not. Example; the triple clamps looked the same but the 17 was etched with 6061 and the 19 was etched with 7075 which is a stronger alloy. There were a lot of refinements in the bikes between years...

Easy-to-follow battery charging protocol for weekend riding

My routine is to charge the bike to 100% rapid right before I head out. When I return I slow charge the bike to 100% with cell balance. I then go out and have a loop that takes it down to about 70% which is where it stays until the next ride. Maybe I am reading into this too much. Are these...

Interesting way to haul your Altas

It was right around freezing that day and hasn't gone up any this week. I keep the bike in a heated shop but to load it on the truck, drive to the trails, unload, and gear up, it was maybe two hours where it sat at that temp. No problem starting and no "warm up". No unusual sounds as some...

    The Tire Thread

These save a lot of weight too. Instead of carrying a chain saw for trail maintenance, you just pull up over a fallen tree and spin the wheel. Cuts them up pretty quick. Seriously though, they can be frightening on concrete road sections as NO rubber touches - only tungsten.

    The Tire Thread

It is also harder to loft the front end for things like downed trees.

    The Tire Thread

I put on a Trelleborg 120/100 tire last week for the snow and ice. The concern I had was comments about the 100 series being too tall as I have studs that stick out another 3/8" on top of the tall sidewall. I moved the tire back in the adjustment and took a gamble. I am pleased to report that...

Interesting way to haul your Altas

Took the Alta out for a little woods day. I found a little mud, a little snow, a little ice. I'm really glad I put on the Trellies before I went.

    Displays button functions (POLL)

% SOC was always something I thought about too. This is a simple way I have been using to more closely estimate the %. We have a label maker so I used the clear background and used capital I to make ending marks, 25% divisions, and the point where it begins to flash at you. I had to play with...

New Grips / Throttle Tube Location

I have always used contact cleaner. To remove, stick a small screwdriver along the bar when removing. Slip the contact cleaner tip down as far as it goes and as you pull back, spray. With a twist, the grip will slip right off.
